This position will play an instrumental role in a portfolio of work that focuses on the way government agencies use data to reduce the friction between residents and the essential services they use. Our projects engage primarily in the federal healthcare space, including with Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace, VA, and others. You will work with a team of analysts, data scientists, and engineers to drive high-impact results for millions of Americans. The Manager I, Data Science will tackle hands-on analytics and propose thoughtful new ideas on our deliverables that advance program objectives and inform client decision-making.

The Manager I, Data Science will tackle hands-on analytics and propose thoughtful new ideas on our deliverables that advance program objectives and inform client decision-making.
In This Position You Will
- Conduct and take ownership of data analysis from disparate data sources to distill human-centered operations and processes into meaningful insights, as well as contribute to the design, implementation, and delivery of analytics products and services
- Devise data analysis and data management strategies to create systematic methods of measuring performance across complex systems and technical implementations.
- Critically evaluate analytical processes, tools, and deliverables, and offer informed opinions on solutions that improve the quality of the team’s work.
- Develop KPIs and metrics, build predictive models and tools,, and develop compelling visualizations to allow clients to easily understand challenges and take a clear action.
- Check, clean and transform incoming data for data pipelines, and help others to do the same.
- Collaborate with engineers, data scientists, program managers and external stakeholders to troubleshoot problems, support the development of project plans, and proactively create solutions.
- Strive to support team excellence by developing high quality documentation.
- Take ownership of task areas and strive to independently resolve challenges, and guide more junior analysts to do the same in order to deliver accurate products on short deadlines.
- Other duties as assigned.
- 3 years of applied experience working with structured/unstructured data.
- An undergraduate degree or higher in a quantitative field or equivalent technical training.
- Strong understanding of how to manipulate data using SQL and Python, and working within cloud-based analytics systems (e.g. Snowflake and DBT).
- Experience in and ability to apply your knowledge of foundations of statistics and modeling (distributions, parameter estimation, confidence intervals and tests, logistic regression and significance testing, etc.)
- Proficiency creating and testing data transformation processes, and automating repeatable tasks.
- An interest in data investigation, solving puzzles, finding patterns in complex data, and proposing solutions that improve both client understanding and end user satisfaction.
- Experience going from insight to impact: using the results of your analysis to tell an informative and engaging story through visualization, presentation, and writing for technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working independently to drive portions of larger projects, developing solutions and guiding analyses from conception through to conclusion that blend data-driven decision-making with thoughtful understanding of human-centered design/processes.
- Experience working in an agile work environment and a strong grasp of version control (i.e. git).
- Ability to extend your expertise to guide more junior analysts by reviewing work for quality and alignment with business requirements, helping to organize raw analysis into consumable stories and recommendations, adding context, and refining ideation and solutioning in the team’s work.
- Passion in applying your skills to our social mission to problem-solve and collaborate within a cross-functional, client-facing team environment.
- The ability to successfully attain and maintain a Federal Public Trust background investigation that our government clients require; this includes a requirement that the individual has U.S. Citizenship, or U.S. residency for three of the past five years (minimum 36 of the past 60 months).
- Experience working with healthcare beneficiary and claims data, especially federal healthcare systems such as Medicare, Medicaid, Marketplace, or Veterans Affairs.
- Experience evaluating and improving the effectiveness of large-scale directly addressable outreach campaigns (email, SMS, autodial, etc.)
- Experience improving the ways beneficiaries interact with information about their healthcare coverage, constituent beneficiary identification and communication, and database maintenance and development.
- Experience with SQL in a Redshift environment is a plus.
- Experience with Quicksight, Tableau, and Adobe Analytics is a plus.
