Job Summary
The Application Engineering role will be responsible for supporting the technical needs of the sales and customer service departments. More specifically product “take-offs” from RCP’s, and creating submittal drawings for approval. This position requires strong technical aptitude and a deep understanding of architectural bid documents and drawings.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Sales Support
While performing the duties of the job, the employee operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines. May access and work in the manufacturing facility, occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts, and vibration. Noise level is usually low to moderate.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. The employee is occasionally required to sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Frequently travel outside the local area and overnight.

Key Responsibilities
Technical Sales Support
- Support the Sales, Quotes, and Customer Service teams as the go-to person for answering technical questions, creating submittal drawings for configurable lighting systems, and performing lighting “take-offs” required to create quotes.
- Prepare accurate material count estimates for commercial bids
- Work with internal teams to determine the feasibility of customer requests including technical, manufacturing, and cost estimation.
- Support Sales and Product Management by investigating technical details, including certification changes or modifications and providing cost estimates.
- Provide project updates to customers and internal stakeholders.
- Relay current customer needs and pain points to product teams.
- Resolve technical issues for existing customers with the goal of increasing retention and customer satisfaction.
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, Architectural Engineering, Lighting Design or equivalent experience
- Preferred 2 years in the lighting industry, the architectural industry or in architectural products company in a technical, application engineering, sales operational or consultative selling and sales agent relationship position.
- This position will require 10%-20% travel to other US factories for in depth product training
- Project management, and presentation skills.
- Strong technical knowledge of lighting products and lighting systems
- Ability to read lighting layouts, lighting manufacturing engineering drawings, and schematics
- Experience with photometry and lighting calculations an asset
- Proficient with all Microsoft Office tools especially Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word
- Proficient with AutoCAD able to create complex 2D submittal product configuration drawings
- 3D modeling software and rendering capabilities an asset
- In-depth knowledge of the architectural lighting industry and its key players
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced and changing environment
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Self-motivated and results oriented
