About the Cyber Security Graduate Program

The Cyber Security Graduate Program is offered by the Department of Computer Science at the University of Denver. We offer a professionally focused, 48-credit curriculum leading to a Master of Cyber Security, which is hosted in person at our main campus South of downtown Denver. The University operates on a quarter system with 10-week terms. Adjunct Faculty are hired on a per-term basis and often teach one or more courses throughout the year. All cyber courses are taught after normal business hours, between 5 and 9 PM, so adjunct faculty with professional obligations are welcome and appreciated.

Position Summary

The Cyber Security Graduate Program at the University of Denver invites applications for adjunct faculty for our in-person program. We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who are qualified to teach the following classes : 1) COMP-3731 : Digital Forensics, 2) COMP-3361 Operating Systems, and / or a topical course in the cyber security domain (e.g., in your area of expertise). Opportunities for paid course development in the areas of cloud / container security, AI / machine learning applications in cyber security, IoT, and other topics are available as well.

Essential Functions

Adjunct faculty in the Cyber Security graduate program are subject matter experts in their field and integrate professionally relevant, diverse examples into their teaching and discussions. They meet the following expectations :

  • Able to teach two courses in the evenings at our main Denver campus.
  • Prepare and facilitate course lectures and inclusive learning.
  • Maintain weekly office hours and consistent presence in assigned course(s).
  • Model and promote critical thinking as well as skill development.
  • Provide specific, relevant, timely feedback and grading.
  • Model and uphold academic standards and practices.

Required Qualifications

  • MS in Computer Science / Cyber Security or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
  • Content expertise in assigned course(s).
  • Evidence demonstrating potential for excellence in teaching.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Computer Science or related discipline and / or industry experience.
  • Evidence of success facilitating learning and mentoring opportunities for adults who seek an advanced degree.
  • Expertise in the Python programming language.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of, and experience with, culturally responsive teaching methods and / or pedagogies to effectively engage broadly diverse student populations.
  • Work Schedule

    While the University's administrative offices are open Monday - Friday, 8 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm, faculty schedules vary from term to term and are based on courses taught, service commitments, and research agendas. The University's academic calendars are posted on the registrar's website (the law school is on a semester system and has a different academic calendar ).

    Course Rate

    The course rate for this position is $5,613 per course section and 10-week term.

    The rate for course development is the same as the adjunct course rate per course developed.

    The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
