The Johns Hopkins School of Nursing Office of Admissions is looking for an Admissions Reader to assist the Admissions Committee with reading and evaluating applications for admission to our Master of Science in Nursing, Doctor of Nursing Practice, Doctor of Philosophy, and Post-Master’s Certificate programs. Reporting to the Director of Admissions, this work will range from approximately 10 to 20 hours per week, and largely take place during busy reading times, for instance, between September and March each year.

This position will be focused on reading application files 95% of the time. On occasion, this position may be asked to support other aspects of the admissions process, for example, communicating with prospective students and virtual event support. This position helps the recruitment team meet important deadlines and milestones each cycle and helps support the growth and development of a diverse community of health professionals.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop understanding of SON degree and certificate programs to be able to fully assess applications.
  • Review and evaluate approximately 50 applications per week.
  • Exercise professional judgment in reviewing, evaluating, and recommending applicants for admission using established guidelines.
  • Review applicants’ undergraduate and / or graduate transcripts, resume and work experience, virtual interviews, letters of recommendations and essays.
  • Summarize applicants’ strengths and weaknesses.
  • Conduct prospective and applicant outreach virtually, by phone and email when directed.
  • Develop and maintain close working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni and other key constituents as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to organize efficiently.
  • Strong technology skills and the ability to work with a CRM.
  • Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree.
  • One-year related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Preferred Qualifications

  • Two to five years’ experience in college admissions, financial aid, and / or student affairs (related experience).
  • An understanding of graduate nursing programs is strongly preferred.

    JHU Equivalency Formula : 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis. For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education / experience required for the respective job.

    The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
