Department : Facility Maintenance
General Statement of Job
The Carpenter performs general carpentry and assists with maintenance duties.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities
Essential Functions :
- Repairs and / or replaces defective equipment including door closets, seals, windows, door hardware and similar equipment.
- Reviews specifications and blueprints, sketches or building plans to prepare project layout and determine dimensions and materials required.
- Removes and replaces damaged or worn out parts of structures.
- Constructs walls using wood / metal studs and sheetrock / plywood.
- Installs suspended acoustic ceiling tiles with metal grid systems.
- Measures, cuts and shapes materials using measuring tapes and power tools.
- Repairs and replaces flooring materials.
- Constructs miscellaneous millwork.
- Utilizes the college's work order system (CMMS) to note time spent and the work performed relative to specific work request.
- Prepares work order material by pulling from stock to meet technical and trade requirements.
- Communicates with contractors and vendors, as needed.
- Adheres to safety and health regulations.
- Operates and conducts routine preventive maintenance on college vehicles; notifies appropriate personnel of any vehicle maintenance required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma or GED required.At least three (3) years of carpentry work experience required.Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.Knowledge and experience in electrical systems, plumbing, carpentry, and other maintenance skills.Ability to use hand and power tools applicable to trade.Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.Ability to adapt to constant change and periods of fast-paced, high-intensity work situations.Must be willing and able to work various hours, various locations, and rotating shifts, including days, nights, weekends, College closures, and holidays, as needed.Ability to travel throughout the College district daily.Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers or employees of organization.Ability to apply practical understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions.Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
