Job Summary
This is a senior professional level position responsible for maintaining the operation of a computer database. The position ensures the database runs properly, remains current, makes user access readily available, and formulates and designs new database applications. The position makes complex decisions regarding procedures for set up of, access to, and operation of databases. The position generally possesses authority to coordinate work within the team to ensure critical dates and system sustainability is achieved. This position will also need to train others, when needed, for specific techniques or technical methods for accomplishing work assignments or projects. This position may serve as project leader on special projects.
Responsibilities
1. Administers assigned databases; performs backup and recovery operations, database patching, and upgrades.
2. Installs and implements application software, application servers, and web servers.
3. Upgrade and patch Oracle applications such as Weblogic, Apex, and Oracle Data Integrator
4. Assigns and coordinates work assignments for functional teams.
5. Assists functional team with development needs, query performance and tuning.
6. Review and submit firewall rules that are appropriate for adjoining applications.
7. Implement cyber security measures as identified to mitigate risk.
8. Troubleshoots and resolves a variety of problems and issues.
9. Develops software to automate processes.
10. Prepares documentation of tools, procedures, diagnoses, repairs and requirements.
11. Research requirements of potential new services.
12. Evaluates the performance of existing services.
13. Manages user accounts.
14. Deploys server solutions; manages system configurations.
15. Builds test environments to evaluate changes prior to production.
16. Provides support for users.
17. Performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
Baccalaureate degree required.
Over five years of related experience required.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
1. Knowledge of relational database management software. (Oracle / SQL)
2. Knowledge of Oracle applications such as Weblogic, Apex, and Oracle Data Integrator.
3. Knowledge of Backup and Database monitoring tools.
4. Knowledge of Palo Alto monitoring and reviewing.
5. Knowledge of database performance and tuning principles.
6. Knowledge of server operating systems.
7. Knowledge of server scripting languages.
8. Knowledge of functionality testing procedures.
9. Knowledge of Board of Regents policies and procedures.
10. Skill in collaborating with multiple constituents.
11. Skill in decision making and problem solving.
12. Skill in the provision of support to end users.
13. Skill in oral and written communication.
14. Ability to respond diplomatically to sensitive and critical issues.

The work consists of varied database administration duties. Frequent changes to industry standards contribute to the complexity of the position.
The purpose of this position is to administer assigned databases. Success in this position contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of a variety of USG and institutional operations.
This is an on-call position that typically follows a team rotation. After hours work and emergency after hours work is required when needed.
Contacts are typically with other system office employees, college and university staff, vendors, contractors, and members of the general public.
Contacts are typically to give or exchange information, to resolve problems, or to provide services.
The work is typically performed while sitting at a desk or table.
The work is typically performed in an office.
