Purpose of Position
This is a technician position, which is necessary for installing, maintaining, testing, and retrofitting electronic systems and technologies on campus in academic, housing, and administrative buildings. These types of electronic systems include : fire-life-safety, fire alarm systems, electronic door access, video surveillance, building security, personnel duress, classroom presentation technologies, public address, and message boards and scoreboards.
This position requires an electronic technician who has a well-versed knowledge of electronic controls, computer systems, networking, and application programs. Strong knowledge of electronic components, controllers, field devices, and sensors is needed.
All Facilities Management positions are subject to callbacks seven day a week, 24 hours a day.
Duties & Responsibilities
Install, Maintain, and Test Electronic SystemsInstall, maintain, and test : fire, life, and safety systems; security and surveillance systems; electronic door access systems; personnel duress; electronic portions of energy metering systems; classroom presentation technologies; message and scoreboards; and public address systems.Research and use installation instructions, owner’s manuals, blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams.Use test equipment for troubleshooting anomalies.Assist and escort service contractors and inspectors.Set up and teardown public address equipment for special indoor and outdoor events.Install and repair connectors and circuit boards using crimping and soldering tools.Document Forms and ReportsDocument periodic maintenance of electronic systems and annual fire alarm reports.Document work done by using forms and creating diagrams, drawings, illustrations, and spreadsheets.Required Competencies
