Responsibilities
The Employee & Labor Relations (ELR) Administrator reports directly to and is under the direct supervision of the Director of Employee & Labor Relations. This position will provide high level guidance on labor relations activities, policies, processes, procedures, and will demonstrate employee relations expertise, excellent judgment, and highly developed analytical, interpersonal, problem-solving and communication skills. This position will work extensively with the Director of ELR to identify opportunities to proactively and preventatively address common employee and labor relations issues and will provide guidance and coaching to managers of all levels to address employee behavior and performance.
The essential functions of this position include :
- Providing guidance and coaching to managers of all levels to address employee behavior and performance, including investigating highly complex and sensitive employee relations matters, including Ethics Point complaints, EOCE case referrals, and disciplinary appeals. Provides sound, legally defensible recommendations, prepares investigative reports, makes recommendations for discipline / termination, analyzes data, records findings, draft actions, and developing viable solutions that are complaint with university policies and procedures. Providing strategic support, thought partnership, and coaching to all levels of the university including advising senior management. May serve as a representative of ELR in the absence of the Director, Employee & Labor Relations on committees and other high-level meetings.
- Providing high level leadership, guidance, and coordination of activities and / or programs related to collective bargaining, including facilitating grievances. Serving as a subject matter expert for assigned collective bargaining union and assists in development of overall strategy to resolve complex issues. Conducting research, contract administration, and ensuring compliance with special projects / programs related to collective bargaining
- Providing high-level direction and leadership, develops and implements long-range goals and objectives, achieving strategic initiatives related to employee relations.
- Developing and leading ELR related projects that have a university-wide impact, including the FSU Complaint Procedure. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Master's degree and four years of experience in administrative services or related area; or a Bachelor's degree and six years of related experience.

What can I expect in the first 60-90 days? Your first few weeks will be getting up to speed on all things FSU HR – our policies, procedures, and what is expected of you. There is the typical onboarding period, but you’ll need to bring your previous experience and skills to the table; we’re definitely not starting at entry-level. Previous experience in employee and / or labor relations is extremely helpful, and we’ll spend transferring those previous skills to this role.
