Position Description :

POSITION SUMMARY

This faculty position is a full-time, 100% FTE, (10 Months) Tenure Track position as Instructor of English in the Division of Language Arts at Evergreen Valley College.

Assignment may include day and evening responsibilities.

This position is represented by the San Jose / Evergreen Federation of Teachers, AFT 6157.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Teach the full scope of the active English composition courses listed in the English Department’s course catalog.

2. Teach literature courses listed in the English Department’s course catalog.

3. Teach courses in assigned discipline by communicating subject matter clearly and effectively.

4. Adapt methodologies for students with special needs and different learning styles.

5. Demonstrate commitment to professional development, including but not limited to activities such as : participation in professional conferences, workshops, seminars, membership in professional organizations, research projects, publishing academic work, participation in statewide committees or organizations, etc.

6. Demonstrate sensitivity in working with students and staff of diverse racial, ethnic, academic and socio economic backgrounds, sexual orientation, and disabilities by showing respect for differences and the dignity of others.

7. Participate in faculty responsibilities such as : course and curriculum development and review, student learning outcomes and assessment, program review, committees, research and special projects as needed in the discipline / department or district.

8. Attend and participate in department, division and college meetings and keep posted office hours.

9. Meet record keeping obligations on time, e.g. grades, census, reports, rosters, textbook orders, and requisitions.

10. Maintain and provide current course syllabi as required by California Education Code and Board policy.

11. Foster a professional work and learning environment.

12. Perform other duties as required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Required Qualifications :

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. Master’s in English, Literature, Comparative Literature, or Composition

Bachelor’s in any of the above

Master’s in Linguistics, TESL, Speech, Education with a specialization in Reading, Creative Writing or

Journalism

• The equivalent.

1. Has skills in developing cross-cultural and anti-racist communication, collaboration, and pedagogy.

2. Has experience in or has demonstrated commitment to extending awareness of opportunities and strategies in achieving success to students of communities historically underrepresented and underserved in higher education.

3. Has experience or has demonstrated commitment to teaching, supporting, and / or mentoring students of communities historically underrepresented and underserved in higher education.

4. Course completion or certificate within past five years demonstrating competency in skills and principles of effective online course design.

5. Has experience teaching a range of college composition course equivalent to ENGL 1A, ENGL 1B, and ENGL 1C as described in the course descriptions of the EVC Course Catalog.

6. Has experience teaching college literature courses.

7. Bilingual abilities, desirable.

Salary Range :

92,844 to $127,448 Entry Level Annual Salary (10 Month Academic Salary Schedule 2024-2025); Maximum Salary Potential $165,361. Note : Actual Salary placement is based on candidate's verified education and experience.
