The Instructor of Data Science-Data Analytics provides effective distance education instruction in the areas of data science, programming, and statistics, and related fields.This person facilitates meaningful learning of the course competencies and proactively supports all facets of the learning environment.This is a 9-month faculty position, with the possibility of converting to a 12-month faculty position with growth of the program.This position reports to the Dean for STEM.
Arkansas State University – Newport is part of the statewide DART Data Science Ecosystem organized by the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville, and as such, the Instructor of Data Science will work in cooperation with the U of A to engage in professional learning in the use of the curriculum and resources to meet desired Ecosystem outcomes and provide quality Data Science education to ASUN students.
Participate in professional development to learn to effectively implement the Ecosystem curriculum and resources.
Assist in the development of Institutional, Program, and Course Outcomes
Prepare course materials such as syllabi, assignments, and assessments
Prepare and deliver lectures, demonstrations, and other lesson activities related to data science course objectives.
Compile, administer, grade, and provide timely feedback on student work and examinations
Deliver distance learning instruction using research-based best practices for online and content engagement
Maintain student attendance records, grades, and other required records
Initiate, facilitate, and moderate online classroom discussions and activities
Participates in conferences, seminars, and training sessions to keep abreast of developments in the field of study and integrate relevant information and updates into curriculum and instruction.
Maintains accessibility to students via email, phone, or online platforms
Maintains course / student records in accordance with FERPA regulations
Submits course records and administrative paperwork by established deadlines
Remains current in academic or program discipline
Participates in ASUN professional development activities
Helps students identify and achieve their educational goals through participating in the college’s advising process, as well as providing incidental academic advice to students in classes.
Posts and keeps office hours to facilitate interaction with students, the college community, and the public.
Serves on standing ad hoc committees, advisory boards, hiring committees, faculty senate, or as a student organization advisor
Attends local, regional, state, or national meetings where required or necessary for discipline
Mentors and assists in orienting new faculty
Attends departmental, divisional, and college-wide meetings where appropriate or as required by supervisor.Performs other academically related duties as assigned by instructor’s supervisor
Performs administrative duties in support of the Data Science Program
Performs any other related duties as required or assigned
- Virtual attendance will be permitted at trainings and other ASUN activities as determined appropriate by the Dean for STEM.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Qualification based on Academic Transcript : Potential candidates should have one of the following :
Master’s degree in Business Administration with emphasis in Analytics
Master’s degree in Data Science
Master’s degree in Computer Science
Master’s degree in Information Systems
Master’s degree in Statistics
Master’s degree in Mathematics
Master’s degree or higher in non-related field, but possessing a minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in Business Administration with emphasis in Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, or Mathematics
MINIMUM FACULTY QUALIFICATIONS BASED ON TESTED EXPERIENCE
Potential candidates should have 18 graduate hours in Business with emphasis in Analytics, Computer Science, Information Systems, Statistics, Mathematics, and / or Data Science and a minimum of 3-years of extensive experience in R Programming Language, or 3-years of experience in data analytics.Instructors may possess less than five years of extensive experience if they are currently enrolled in a graduate program related to the field in which they are teaching.
RESPONSIBILITY FOR FUNDS, PROPERTY and EQUIPMENT
Shares responsibility for the maintenance and upkeep of the equipment and facilities.

Strong communication skills are required.
