Description

The Department of Chemistry at Clemson University seeks applicants for an Assistant NMR Manager at the rank of Lecturer. The successful candidate will assist the Director of NMR Facilities with daily maintenance and upkeep of the department's five NMR spectrometers, especially the Bruker 500 MHz solid-state NMR spectrometer with a MAS and HRMAS probe. This includes, but is not limited to, experiment setup, routine maintenance (such as cryogen fills and probe changes), troubleshooting, coordinating repairs with the NMR manufacturer, overseeing scheduling of the instrument(s), running NMR spectra for external users, and training new users in solid-state NMR. The candidate will also be expected to work closely with students, postdocs, and other researchers, so excellent oral communication and teaching skills are required. The candidate may also teach formal undergraduate and graduate level courses.

Qualifications

The candidate must have a Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, or a related field with significant experience in solid-state NMR, preferably of materials. Experience in EPR spectroscopy and / or willingness to learn how to manage the departmental EPR spectrometer is a plus.

The initial appointment of this position is for 12 months, with reappointment as dictated by the faculty manual.
