Job Description :

The Department of Romance Languages at Binghamton University is seeking to hire a lecturer in Italian, beginning in August 2025, to teach elementary to advanced courses. This is a full-time position (up to a three-year contract) with possible renewal. The teaching load is three courses per semester during the academic year. Language courses at the elementary and intermediate levels are taught with coordination throughout the department. We particularly seek candidates who can teach an advanced course on the Italian language in the cultural context of the 21st century and are able to bring knowledge of contemporary Italy to teaching elementary and intermediate language classes.

Apart from teaching, this position involves departmental service, which includes working with and mentoring students outside the classroom (e.g., conversation tables, internships, special event programming). The position requires an interest in interacting with students outside the classroom and working with colleagues to develop innovative extracurricular projects.

The lecturer is expected to actively contribute to the University's mission of advancing a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion through teaching and service, as well as through engagement with faculty, students, and staff.

• Master's Degree or PhD in Italian by August 18, 2025
• Record of successful teaching at the elementary and / or intermediate levels in Italian
• Native or near-native fluency in both Italian and English
