Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit :
The UNC Adams School of Dentistry Dental Faculty Practice provides general and specialty dental and maxillofacial treatment with faculty from various clinical departments and groups (i.e. general dentistry, orthodontics, pediatric dentistry, oral surgery, dental implants, oral medicine, orofacial pain, periodontics, prosthodontics, pathology, radiology, special care, and endodontics). The clinical team consists of caring and competent clinical assistants, hygienists, administrative and financial personnel. An advantage to patients is that they can see multiple dental specialists as part of the same practice; these specialists are clinicians, educators and researchers that are committed to providing the highest quality of care for their patients.
Position Summary :
The Patient Relations Representative in the Dental Faculty Practice is responsible for regulating the flow of patients’ dental and maxillofacial appointment needs. Independently interacts with patients in person or by telephone. Triages incoming calls to direct patients to either meet their needs with DFP or provide contact information to the Student and Graduate Clinics. Fully registers new DFP patients (in Epic) while explaining what they can expect at their first appointment and answering subsequent questions. Checks patients in and out of the Practice. At check out the position collects patients’ payments and makes additional patient appointments if necessary. Works with DFP clinicians and clinical staff to coordinate, cancel, and reschedule patients as needed (e.g. due to incomplete lab work, change in clinician’s DFP schedule or patient’s treatment plan). Strives to meet every patient care expectation whether in person or over the telephone while maintaining high professional standards. Position also posts into Epic the daily patients payments received through the U.S. Mail, reconciles end of day cash drawer, while providing patients with service rendered receipts and forwarding their information to the insurance office for processing.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements :
High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience :
Ability to work independently with patients and provide attention to details, strong organizational skills, thorough follow through on all patient, clinicians or clinical staff related tasks and the ability to meet deadlines. Must have excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills. Strong computer skills also required.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience :
Previous dental office experience, with knowledge of general and specialties dental terminology preferred. Prior training / experience in Epic (electronic medical record system).
