Job Summary

The Physical Security Systems Administrator serves as the Georgia College & State University (GCSU) subject matter expert regarding equipment, software solutions, operational management and institutional standards and policy facilitating the physical security of the institution and the safety of its constituency. For this purpose, physical security includes, but may not be limited to, video surveillance, access control, intrusion detection, and emergency notification systems. This position is a member of the GCSU Information Technology (IT) team and reports to the Senior Director for IT Infrastructure. Strategically, the physical security program is governed by the Security Systems Governance Committee. While the Physical Security Systems Coordinator will be a member of the governance committee, this position also administers day-to-day operations in partnership with Facilities Management, Public Safety, Auxiliary Services, teammates within Information Technology, and other key stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Service Planning - 15

  • Serve as subject matter expert regarding physical security principles, standards, processes and planning.
  • Serve as central contact for and coordinator of all campus physical security systems (including video surveillance, alarming, access control, etc.).
  • Liaise with Public Safety, Facilities Management, Auxiliary Services and other key stakeholder entities to align physical security systems with the operational needs of the campus.
  • With assistance from vendor and campus partners, identify approved standard equipment, systems, solutions, and integrators to ensure reliable functionality of systems and interoperability of system components.
  • Stay abreast of current and emerging related technologies and product enhancements to make informed suggestions regarding modernization and evolution of services.

Service Management - 15

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all physical security systems equipment, including service records and warranty information.
  • Develop and manage a lifecycle replacement plan for all physical security systems components.
  • Service Health - 40

  • Perform first-tier troubleshooting of physical security systems errors and issues.
  • Ensure that preventive maintenance tasks are performed efficiently and accurately.
  • Conduct periodic audits of equipment and systems to regularly and systematically address operational issues.
  • Coordinate and validate installation and configuration of equipment, systems and services
  • Project Management - 20

  • Receive, document, and triage project proposals and, for approved projects, work with vendors and campus partners to design appropriate solutions, develop procurement and deployment plans, and manage implementation.
  • Serve as the technical contact for physical security system projects and liaise with faculty, staff, internal service providers and third-party vendors and suppliers.
  • Perform on-site quality inspections to validate work performed by vendors and internal partners is in compliance with established standards, specifications and best practices.

  • Provide targeted training on the capabilities and effective use of supported physical security systems.

    Required Qualifications

    Educational Requirements

    Minimum requirements include vocational training, apprenticeships, or equivalent experience in a related field (not typically required to have a four-year degree).

    Required Experience

    Experience installing, configuring, and / or managing video surveillance, physical access control, alarm or other physical security systems

    Preferred Qualifications

    Preferred Experience

  • Experience installing network cabling (category 5E / 6 / etc. and / or fiber optics)
  • Project and portfolio management experience a plus
  • Vendor management experience
  • Knowledge of basic electricity and electrical systems a plus.
  • Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

    ABILITIES

    Experience working in a group environment with a team or related functional group. Ability to work in an environment of limited supervision where work is judged by results and overall demonstration of skills.

    KNOWLEDGE

  • Knowledge of networking basics, including basic TCP / IP technologies and terminology.
  • Solid / working knowledge in operation management, basic technical skills, software solutions, operational management and institutional standards policy facilitating the physical security of the institution and technical assistance to manufacturers.
  • SKILLS

  • Interpersonal communications such as exchanging information, one-on-one troubleshooting; group communications such as participating in meetings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Basic computer / technology skills (including PC operation and the use of business productivity software such as Microsoft Office)
  • Excellent communication (oral, written, presentation), interpersonal and consultative skills.
