Position Summary :
The Postal Technician performs routine postal duties and complies with federal postal rules and regulations in the receipt, handling, and distribution of all classes of incoming and outgoing mail.
The position operates postal equipment, processes, sorts and delivers letters, packages, and parcels for delivery.
Reporting to the Student Mail Services Supervisor, the Postal Technician performs a variety of routine duties within established policies and procedures or by referral to the supervisor’s guidelines.
Specific responsibilities include (but not limited to) :
- Receives, sorts, and delivers incoming U.S. Postal Service and campus mail. Prepares and processes outgoing First Class, Priority, Standard A, parcels, and accountable U.S. mail according to U.S. Postal Service regulations. Receives and processes letters, packages, and parcels from mail delivery / courier companies, i.e. FedEx, UPS, DHL, etc.
- Provide students and staff with the highest level of customer service, whether at the walk-up window, by telephone or email. Address customer concerns by resolving problems and answering questions in a professional and polite manner.
- Operate mail metering, weighing, and electronic accounting equipment by ensuring the security of equipment in compliance with USPS regulations and department security requirements. Dispense and sell postage and postal money orders. Reconcile daily postage reports to the postage used.
- Make deposit to U.S. Postal Service transferring cash to USPS registered mail at the local USPS branch location with minimal loss of funds. Complete U.S. Postal Service forms.
