Responsibilities
- Assigned teaching and research duties in physical oceanography with an emphasis on computer modeling. Responsible for developing, planning, and implementing teaching lessons for FSU students.
- Responsible for performing original basic and applied research in physical oceanography with an emphasis on computer modeling of hydrodynamics / thermodynamics, data assimilation, and analysis of satellite oceanographic data as related to the development of ocean environment prediction capabilities.
- Expected to present research results at national and international conferences and publish results in refereed journals.
- Responsible for preparing and submitting proposals to government agencies including but not limited to the Office of Naval Research, the National Science Foundation, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration to obtain external funding.
- Expected to provide services for the scientific community such as serving as a convener and session chair in national and international conferences, evaluating student presentations at these conferences and reviewing papers and proposals.
- Responsible for to providing research assistance to colleagues, advising and providing scientific support for postdoctoral associates, students, interns, and visitors.
Qualifications
Academic doctorate or highest-level terminal degree from an accredited institution in Physical Oceanography or a closely related discipline or equivalent qualifications based on professional experience and otherwise qualified to perform assigned duties, with a demonstrated record of achievement in academic research, publications, and service.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working with and evaluating numerical ocean models, particularly the Hybrid Coordinate Ocean Model or the Navy Coastal Ocean Model. Experience with running numerical models, particularly performing Observing System Simulation Experiments and Observing System Evaluations. Experience processing, analyzing, and comparing ocean observations and model data. Experience working in a Linux environment and running interactive / batch jobs on HPC machines.
