Job Summary
Reporting to the Project SAFE Director & Survivor Advocate, the Survivor Advocate is responsible for providing direct-service advocacy to students, as well as offering programmatic and administrative support to the Project SAFE Prevention Education and Advocacy staff as needed. In this role the Survivor Advocate helps survivors navigate the system, and helps to ensure that survivors’ legal, medical, emotional, and academic needs are met. The Survivor Advocate works closely with the Director of Project SAFE, and collaborates with College departments and community organizations to ensure that survivors of sexual misconduct receive comprehensive support.
Job Duties
- 85% - Serve as one of Occidental College’s Survivor Advocates, providing support and advocacy for survivors of sexual misconduct. This includes, but is not limited to : Maintains caseload of student survivors on campus. Identifying and referring survivors to resources on and off campus to support their mental and physical health. Arranging academic accommodations through the office of the Dean of Students. Supporting and advocating for survivor throughout sexual misconduct investigations and adjudication proceedings, including attending intake interviews, investigation interviews, supporting survivor during the review of the investigation and other reports, supporting survivor during the hearing preparation, and attending hearings with the survivor. Providing ongoing case management (including case note entry), advocacy, and continued support and resources throughout survivors’ time at Occidental. Providing a safe space for survivors at Occidental. Work closely with the Civil Rights & Title IX Office in coordination of services, adjudication process and access to resources and information for survivors. Engage in clinical consultation with Director of Project SAFE and Emmons therapist. Maintain the highest level of confidentiality on all matters regarding sexual misconduct affecting students at Occidental College. - (Essential)
- 10% - Leads advocacy training for student organizations, teams, and groups, and conducts sessions for Summer RA, PA, MSI, and student athlete training. Leads classroom training sessions requested by professors on how to access Project SAFE Advocacy services. Assists in creating educational content and distributing information from Project SAFE training to the Occidental community. - (Marginal)
- 5% - Manage the Project SAFE email list, website, and newsletter. Oversee the scheduling and responsibilities of student workers at the front desk. Assist with purchasing for the Project SAFE office. Monitor the Survivor Advocate email as needed. - (Marginal)

Preferred Qualifications
EXPECTED HIRING RANGE : $29.00 / hr-$31.00 / hr
If you are offered this position at Occidental College, your final base salary compensation will be determined based on factors such as skills, education, experience, and / or geographic location. In addition to those factors, Occidental complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous compensation and benefits package.
