Job Title : Technical Services Archivist
Department : Libraries | Special Collections and Area Studies
The Technical Services Archivist (Archivist 2) is a member of the Archival Technical Services (ATS) unit, and is responsible for coordinating several core operational workflows in the unit and partner units, as well as performing archival accessioning and arrangement and description activities.
The Archivist is a highly collaborative position, working regularly with all members of the Archival Technical Services unit, as well as with partners in many other units throughout the Special Collections & Area Studies division and the Content & Access division.As the primary coordinator for archival collections receiving workflows, the Archivist is responsible for both administrative activities (including drafting and routing deeds of gift, scheduling collections shipping or drop-offs, receiving and inspecting new arrivals, and keeping tracking systems and unit partners consistently updated), as well as archival activities critical for new acquisitions (including inventory and initial provenance control, stabilization and / or other necessary physical interventions, and updating location and collection management systems).
While the Archivist primarily coordinates and supports workflows for new arrivals, the position also participates in the full spectrum of archival work within the ATS unit, including regular archival accessioning and / or arrangement and description of collections in a wide range of topic, size, and format, both independently and as a member of collaborative teams within the ATS unit.
Additionally, the Archivist directly supports the work of other archivists in the ATS unit and partner units by coordinating and placing all orders for all supplies necessary to complete ongoing work, maintaining accurate inventories of archival supplies, and effectively managing archival supply storages rooms.
This position actively supports the teaching and research objectives of University Libraries Special Collections, coordinating and / or supporting workflows that ensure materials requested for use are made available quickly and efficiently. The Technical Services Archivist consistently demonstrates commitment to Ohio State University Libraries values and promotes an organizational culture of Discovery, Connection, Equity, Integrity, and Stewardship (https : / / library.osu.edu / strategic-directions) as well as dedication to advance the work of the Archival Technical Services Unit. All other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience
Required : Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience. At least 2-years’ experience of applied work with archival collections, such as : accessioning, processing, collection surveying, description creation / revision, and / or any other work that directly applies the standards and best practices of the archival profession to describe and / or manage archival collection holdings. Demonstrated knowledge of Describing Archives : A Content Standard (DACS). Experience effectively following complex workflows involving many steps. Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a highly collaborative environment.
Desired : Master's degree or advanced course work in a relevant field focusing on archives. Professional experience in an archival or cultural heritage environment. Demonstrated experience using DACS to write and / or revise archival description. Experience effectively coordinating or leading complex workflows involving many steps. High level of attention to detail.
