Inventory trees and collect data from trees on the Athens’ campuses.

Writing up reports, quality control of data, and any other activity that pertains to the tree inventory and campus trees.

Position Summary :
The position assists in keeping the tree inventory current through outdoor fieldwork. This involves continuously walking around, taking coordinates of trees, identifying trees, taking height, diameter at breast height, and other data from the trees. Areas of work will include Athens, GA portions of campus (including the new medical science campus and other surrounding campuses). This work will include landscaped areas around parking lots and buildings and natural areas.
Relevant / Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification in Position :
Experience inventorying trees.
Experience taking tree measurements (height, diameter at breast height, canopy cover, etc.).
Experience using map software including FieldMaps, ArcGIS Pro, and ArcGIS online.
Experience taking coordinates in the field using a submeter GPS unit.
Classes taken related to urban forestry, forestry, and natural resources.
Dendrology class completed or in progress.
Ability to identify most tree species in Georgia.
Student working towards a degree
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and / or Competencies :
- Experience in inventorying trees.
- Experience with GPS units and ESRI mapping software.
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions
