Overview : Tutors provide individual and small group tutoring sessions in subjects in which the tutor has attained a grade of A. The Tutor facilitates learning as a guide to assist the student to become a successful, independent learner. The purpose of tutoring is to increase and enhance mastery of concepts or applications of a specific course of study. Tutors integrate effective study and learning strategies to maximize the tutee’s potential for academic progress. Training for Tutors is mandatory. Tutors are expected to communicate well with students, faculty, and STARS.
Essential Functions
- Support students individually or in small groups with understanding content by helping them develop the skills necessary for learning : providing subject-area knowledge and mentoring students on the strategies, techniques, and attitudes needed for successful mastery of the material.
- Deliver presentations on various academic skills and strategies to student organizations and across campus.
- Maintain confidentiality and uphold FERPA requirements.
- Achieve and advance certification through the College Reading and Language Association (CRLA) as a Peer Educator. Pay raises are commensurate with additional CRLA certifications. (All training is paid, and we work with your class schedule to determine your work hours).
- Other duties as assigned by the Tutoring Specialist.
