Job Summary
The Virtual Success Advisor is a direct report of the Senior Coordinator of Virtual Campus and Advising. The Virtual Success Advisor who will apply knowledge of best practices in guiding and mentoring online / distance learners. This position is intended to work from home 75% of the time and on campus for the remaining 25% (Fridays). But, there will be times of the year when we will need you on campus more often, such as advising week for registration and various events held on and / or off campus.
This position will report to the Senior Coordinator of Advising and work collaboratively with our Online Learning Department. The person to fill this role will have a demonstrated ability to work independently and self-manage their student case load. The incumbent must have advanced communication skills because of the nature of the role and a student first focus.
The Virtual Success Advisor will work closely with CEI department chairs and deans to understand program information to then deliver accurate, detailed knowledge to online students regarding programs, procedures and academic requirements of a specific program or major to set students up for success. The Virtual Success Advisor will aid students with preparation for university transfer which includes, working with the transfer office located on CEI’s campus.
The Virtual Success Advisor position will be heavily involved in various projects for CEI’s virtual campus (virtual fairs, etc.) as well as hosting live events during evenings and occasional weekends. This position will gather, track, and report retention data to the Senior Coordinator of Virtual Campus and Advising.

Typical Job Functions
Provide Advising for online students phone / email / Zoom, and referral services for current and prospective students. This includes : available college courses and programs, academic maps, course requirements, CEI school policies, etc.
Attend education and advising related workshops and seminars, program advisory committee meetings, assists with graduation ceremony, plans and schedules events in the annual calendar
Attend and conduct Student Orientation Advising and Registration (SOAR). Administer SOAR alongside various individuals in Student Affairs
Host events on campus such as, Advising Week, Transfer Fair, and other events as assigned
Assist students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities and setting goals
Work closely and independently with other CEI departments, faculty, and staff
Retention strategies for student success and other assigned tasks
Work with faculty to ensure proper notification when there is a student of concern
Work with students who seek guidance by utilizing advising materials provided
Provide in-depth advising for General Education and CTE programs, including prerequisites and entry tests
Track retention data and reporting it to the Senior Coordinator of Virtual Campus and various departments
Perform other job related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, sociology or closely related field
Experience working directly with individuals and groups that have diverse needs, backgrounds, and circumstances
Demonstrates excellence in written, verbal, and interpersonal relation skills
Incumbent must reside in Idaho (CEI doesn't currently sponsor H-1B visas)
Training must be done in person
Additional Desired Qualifications
Master’s degree in guidance, counseling, advising, or closely related field
Two years’ experience in a post-secondary education environment
Understanding of student development theories
Bilingual (Spanish)
Physical Demands and Work Environment :
Employees work indoors and are protected from weather and / or contaminants, but not, necessarily, occasional temperature changes. The employee is regularly required to sit and often uses repetitive hand motions.
Employees may be required to work at occasional events and handle tasks outside of regular working hours.

Background Investigations :
Employment at College of Eastern Idaho will be contingent upon the successful completion of a criminal background investigation and may require a credit and / or motor vehicle background investigation depending on the position. Please refer to Policy 225 : Background Checks
