Business Insider is hiring an experienced editor to help launch and build our Live Events offerings. BI’s award-winning journalism reaches millions of readers and video viewers, and now we’re looking for a seasoned journalist to help us reach our audience through in-person stage events, hosted dinners, virtual roundtables, and more.

This person will draw on enthusiasm for stories and editorial franchises that BI readers love–whether that’s how AI is evolving the workforce, what the changing economy really means for day-to-day life, or how to succeed in your “9 to 5” and “5 to 9” lives–and be responsible for transforming reporting on those topics into the editorial strategy around events.This role requires a unique mix of creative vision, commercial acumen, and willingness to roll up your sleeves and execute on logistics. Someone who excels at juggling tasks will thrive in this role : one day you will brainstorm with BI’s sales team, and the next you will call and secure top-tier speakers, and another day you will help organize event participants on the ground.This position reports directly to the editor-in-chief, and will work closely with the VP, Live Events. This role is located in New York City, with the editor expected to work from our headquarters at One Liberty Plaza three to five days a week.Key Responsibilities : Develop and curate programming for live events, including themes, topics, and session formats.Brainstorm potential speakers from across the newsroom and industries and lead bookings.Work with the video and web editorial teams to cover and, where appropriate, film events for distribution to a wider audience.Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with a network of speakers, thought leaders, industry experts, and influencers across a range of industries, including business, entertainment, technology, and more.Manage and mentor a program director who assists with managing speakers and other details of events.The Ideal Candidate Has : 5 - 10 years of experience in a newsroom, including 5 years of live events experience.A clear track record of success in business and / or financial journalism.Deep appreciation and understanding for BI’s coverage areas including how we cover core topics, and familiarity with bylines of individual reporters.Demonstrated skills in : collaboration within a newsroom and with other departments, and creative vision for sharing our journalism across multiple mediums.Comfort speaking, moderating, or presenting to audiences big or small.A strong foundational rolodex of contacts related to core BI coverage topics, and the desire to keep building out their network.Excellent data analytics and project management skills.Salary & Benefits : Base salary : $175,000 - $250,000 (dependent on skills, experience, and competencies) and a performance-based bonus.Unlimited PTO, 10 paid holidays, and 16 weeks of parental leaveComprehensive medical, dental, and vision insurance plansMatched and vested 401k planAccess to resources for financial planning guidance, family planning services, mental health reach out and Employee Assistance Programs (EAP)Additional benefits include commuter benefits, phone reimbursement, gym membership discounts, and moreBusiness Insider is committed to providing equal employment opportunities and, when making employment decisions, does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sex, sexual orientation, age, nationality or national origin, religion, disability, familial status, and military or veteran status.
