Industrial Designer – Outdoor Gear
Location: Greater Kansas City Area (Full-Time)
We're looking for a full-time Industrial Designer specializing in Softgoods for Camping and Outdoor Gear to join our team in the greater Kansas City area. In this role, you’ll help create innovative, high-quality outdoor products for a leading brand in the industry. As part of a collaborative, multi-disciplinary design team, you’ll contribute to the development of a wide range of camping essentials—including tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, camping furniture, coolers, headlamps, lanterns, flashlights, and more.
Essential Skills & Qualifications
- 0–4 years of relevant experience
- Primary focus on softgoods design and development, including trend analysis, CMF (Color, Material, Finish) design, and pattern generation.
- Strong aesthetic sensibility and creative problem-solving skills
- Ability to generate a wide range of compelling design solutions through sketching, rendering, and digital tools.
- Excellent concept development with the ability to communicate the strategy behind your designs
- Solid understanding of global design trends and color theory
- Strong visualization and communication skills
- Entrepreneurial mindset with a passion for bringing fresh ideas to the table
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or equivalent
Desired Skills & Experience
- Experience designing durable goods for the outdoor industry
- Experience creating 2D CAD / Technical drawings for softgoods
- Experience with Adobe Illustrator
- Basic skills in KeyShot or similar rendering programs
- Familiarity with 3D modeling tools like SolidWorks
- Passion for the outdoors and an active lifestyle
