Title: Food Scientist
Type: 5 month contract to hire
Pay Rate: Up to $26/hr
Location: Bedford Park, IL 60501
On-site 5 days a week M-F 40/hrs
Must Haves:
- Bachelor’s degree in food science, culinary arts, or related field OR an associate degree in Culinary Arts with relevant food science experience
- 3-5 years of experience in product development (preferably in a food manufacturing or culinary innovation environment)
- Experience with ingredient functionality, sensory evaluation, and product formulation
- Strong culinary skills and knowledge of food saftey, qualiy assurance, and regulatory compliance
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
Job Summary:
Seeking a passionate and innovative Food Scientist to join our Research and Development (R&D) team. Someone with a culinary background is preferred. The ideal candidate will blend culinary creativity with food science expertise to develop new food products, improve existing formulations, and ensure that products developed for customers meet quality, safety, and regulatory standards. This is a contract to hire position and if successful, the Food Scientist will be a key contributor to the creation of unique, market-ready food products and the advancement of Univar’s value-added services to our customers and suppliers.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Development:
- Collaborate with R&D, marketing, and production teams to conceptualize and develop new food products that align with consumer trends and company objectives.
- Apply culinary techniques to create prototypes that emphasize flavor, texture, and visual appeal.
- Formulation and Testing:
- Develop and refine product formulations to meet functional, nutritional, and sensory targets.
- Conduct sensory evaluations and use feedback to enhance recipes.
- Test product stability, shelf life, and scalability for mass production.
- Culinary Innovation:
- Stay up to date on culinary trends, ingredients, and cooking techniques to inspire innovative product ideas.
- Experiment with novel ingredients and technologies to create cutting-edge food solutions.
- Documentation and Compliance:
- Maintain detailed records of formulations, test results, and processes.
- Ensure all products comply with food safety regulations, labeling requirements, and company standards.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:
- Partner with quality assurance, production, and procurement teams to transition prototypes into scalable manufacturing processes.
- Participate in customer presentations and tastings, showcasing culinary expertise.
Salary : $26
