What to Expect
As a I&E Design Technician you will be playing a critical role in the construction of our clients first lithium refinery plant near Corpus Christi, TX. This role will require collaboration across functional groups to resolve technical design issues, ensure quality installations, track and report cost/schedule metrics, and model safe work practices. This is a role that requires sound technical judgement and creative problem-solving skills to support field operations.
Day to Day
- Manage and answer Request for Information (RFI) submissions from contractors
- Support internal QA team with inspections and Non-Compliance Reports (NCRs)
- Identify and provide a path of resolution to design technical field issues as they arise in collaboration with engineering, applicable contractors, and other parties as required
- Support Project Mangers (PMs) with cost controlling, scheduling, engineering deliverable reviews & tracking, and similar
- Support with development/review of contractor bid packages including project scopes of work, cost estimates, work plans, and resource requirements
- Evaluate contractor change orders and provide recommendations to project management
- Support safety by creating reports, managing the resolution, and implementing changes to any unsafe work conditions
- Ensure all field activities are being executed per project specifications, procedures, and current design documents
- Create, revise, and execute site specific standards and support in the creation of specifications for your area of expertise
- Review and implement codes and regulations for your area of expertise
- Complete constructability reviews and provide feedback to the appropriate teams for lessons learns and proactive fixes in the field
- Complete reviews on calculations and supplemental documentation with feedback on improving designs along with cost reduction where possible
Requirements
- 5-15 years of relevant industrial experience (heavy industrial, oil & gas, complex chemical plants)
- Instrumentation and Electrical Background
- Instrumentation (level transmitters, alarms, thermal couples, etc.)
- Electrical load list, cable schedules, single line diagrams, cable tray routing, underground duct bank & conduit, grounding, and lighting plans
- Piping and Instrumentation Diagram (P&ID), Process Flow Diagram (PFD), Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), heat tracing, process data sheets, and instrument cut sheets
- Going through models and design deliverables for technical reviews & constructability
- Review and procuring for any request within your discipline – generating POs from bids
- Previous experience on $200M projects, preferably with experience on both “owner” and “contractor” side
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and technical specifications
- Preferred Software: Navisworks, Bluebeam, AutoCAD
- Proven ability to identify field issues and propose efficient solutions
- Willingness to spend a high percentage of time in the field and to get hands dirty as needed to complete objectives or find the correct information
- Ability to work within a high-performance, cross-functional organization with extremely tight timelines and aggressive goal
- Excellent written and verbal communication, presentation skills are a must
Plusses
- Degree in Engineering or similar
- Experience in both greenfield and brownfield construction environments
- E/I/C drafting & redlining experience preferred
Pay Rate: $60-65/hr
