About Insight Memory Care Center

Insight Memory Care Center is a nonprofit providing quality memory and cognitive care for families living with dementia. We do this through specialized day programs for individuals living with memory and cognitive impairments, support for care partners and families, and education and engagement opportunities for the wider community. A nonprofit organization serving Northern Virginia since 1984, Insight offers a spectrum of holistic care, with a vision of a community where those living with cognitive impairment can achieve the highest quality of life.

Position Description

The Director of Philanthropy has overall responsibility for developing and implementing a long-range strategic fundraising program with an emphasis on donor cultivation, major gifts, community and civic giving, planned giving, and capital fundraising. The Director of Philanthropy sets direction and develops strategies for accomplishment of organizational goals and priorities in accordance with our mission, vision, and values.

  • Prepare and implement Insights development plan towards the goal of an increased donor acquisition and retention; with a directed focus on major gift donors.
  • Serve as a member of Insights leadership team, partnering with the Executive Director, Board Chair, Board Members, and development staff to best position the organization for effective donor cultivation and stewardship. Support development training and mentoring of staff throughout the organization.
  • Provide direct oversight to the development team to achieve budgeted goals for all fundraising efforts of the organization, including grants and events to achieve its short-term and long-term strategic priorities.
  • Prepare leadership team and program staff for meetings with donors, sponsors, and prospects, developing needed materials, coordinating and participating in meetings as needed.
  • Oversee grant seeking efforts, including setting priorities to ensure Insights strategic vision and values.
  • Track individual and organizational engagements and interactions in Insights constituent relationship management system (Neon), overseeing tracking, reporting, and best practices in privacy and data hygiene.
  • Partner with Communications to create engaging donor communications, including annual appeals, mailings, and giving campaigns.
  • Oversee and implement organizational fundraising events, including a spring benefit breakfast and a fall dinner gala.
  • Develop and implement strategies for maintaining a high-quality presence in the general community and the long-term care arena.

Qualifications

  • Passion for the mission of Insight Memory Care Center. Desire to build and maintain successful relationships with individual donors, foundations, and organizations to build long-term relationships and achieve fundraising success.
  • 7 years of relevant nonprofit development experience, having demonstrated successfully meeting fundraising goals through diverse funding streams for organizations with $2M to $6M operating budgets.
  • Demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain relationships with stakeholders, supporters, and others.
  • Capacity to communicate clearly and persuasively with diverse funding audiences with awareness of nuance and sensitivity relative to our mission. Ability to write effectively about Insights work and mission and oversee proposals, reports and other materials.
  • Effective experience leading staff and supporting teams in working towards fundraising goals. Ability to work independently and on a team.
  • Experience with major fundraising events and galas. Demonstrated ability to secure new sponsorships and build successful long-term relationships with current supporters.
  • Comfort in using donor management software.
  • Sound judgment and ability to exercise discretion when dealing with confidential and donor information.
