The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner works within an interdisciplinary team providing affordable health care services for the underserved within a community-based health center. This position must be able to work well in a team oriented environment and have experience working with vulnerable individuals experiencing serious and chronic mental health and addiction issues.
Essential Job Functions
- Initial and follow up psychiatric evaluations/assessments
- Comprehensive mental status exams and risk assessments
- Provides monitoring and follow-up of all referrals.
- Prescribes psychotropic medication and manages psychotropic treatment as needed for enrolled clients.
- Provide crisis intervention as directed.
- Discusses and creates Treatment Plans with clients.
- Other relevant duties as assigned.
Education and Certification
- Master of Science in Nursing and a post-master’s certificate with license to practice as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner.
- MAT certified
- Active DEA
- 3-5 years of clinical, psychopharmacology and direct service provision with minority communities, communities at risk and families affected by HIV/AIDS, mental illness and substance abuse.
- Working experience with group facilitation, psychopathology/psychotherapy, and differential diagnosis.
- Intermediate to advance knowledge and experience with Microsoft Word and Outlook.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus.
- Experience working with PLWHA population and social service systems in New York City.
