Job Responsibilities:
The Laboratory Administrative Director will report to the hospital Chief Operating Officer and the Medical Director of the Laboratory. This position will work closely with the quality manager, and section lead medical technologist staff directly to assure the departments quality metric’s are followed and all standards of CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, IDH and all other regulatory agencies are met. This includes following parameters for acceptable performance for the pre-analytical, analytical and post-analytical testing processes. This position will also be responsible for maintaining budgetary goals and have fiduciary responsibility over the laboratory, reporting and responding to the appropriate individuals in finance or as assigned. The laboratory Administrative Director shall work closely with the Medical director, informing him of all deviations of operational standards and assist the director and lead techs as well as all other lab staff of each area as the situation needs occur. When the situation warrants it may be required to assist lead medical technologists in cross training staff and when needed and as appropriate will also work in each respective department providing clinical testing. Additional responsibilities include:
-Resolve all technical problems with the aid of the technical staff and ensures that remedial action is taken whenever a test deviates from the laboratory’s performance standards.
-Ensure that all patient results are not reported until corrective actions have been taken and the systems are functioning properly.
-Identify training needs and ensures all training is performed as required.
-Must have a working knowledge of the Code of Federal Regulations Title 42/Chapter IV/Subsection G Part 493-Laboratory Requirements as well as CAP Regulations.
Qualifications
Bachelor's or master’s degree in in a chemical, physical or biological science or medical technology from an accredited institution;
ASCP certification preferred and
5 years’ experience in a clinical laboratory environment required (all aspects).
2 years' supervisory experience.
1 years’ experience in all aspects of clinical laboratory regulations.
Computer proficiency and working knowledge in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Be able at a minimum to perform all STAT testing in the department if need be.
Provide testing assistance as needed in any department based on the immediate needs to assure that patient care is the first priority.
Provide leadership with respect to all aspects of the laboratory. This includes but not limited to personal matters, compliance matters, quality matters and fiduciary matters.
Provide updates to both the administrative leadership and that of the Medical Director on all matters of importance and potential importance.
Assure that both Medical Director and Chief Operating Officer are aware of all issues that could have a negative impact on the laboratory, its operation or that of Insight.
Be familiar with all compliance standards published by CAP, CLIA, IDH, OSHA, and any other regulatory agency such that the laboratory is in full compliance with the law.
Assist the Medical Director on off-site CAP inspections
Ensure that all Quality Assurance/Quality Control standards are met by staff.
Reads, understands modify and edit under the direction of the medical director, applicable Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's), including safety and quality procedures.
Oversee and monitor all aspects of the laboratories fiduciary activity including budgeted staffing costs, equipment and reagent costs.
Prepares various analyses as needed to highlight issues and resolve questions.
