Patient Care Supervisor, Surgical Services
Shift: Full-Time, Days
Job Summary:
The Surgical Services Supervisor is a professional care giver who assumes responsibility and accountability for Surgical Patients. The supervisor assists the Director of Surgical Services in accomplishing nursing care and hospital strategies. As such, they oversee and direct staff and staff functions along with patient care and unit operations.
Required Qualifications:
Current Registered Nurse license in the State of Michigan
Preferred Qualifications:
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)
Work Environment and Standards:
Physical: Electrical, Radiation, Laser
Chemical: Waste anesthesia gases, cold sterilant, formalin, phenol, surgical plume
OSHA Category 1: Hazards include risk of exposure to communicable disease, bodily fluids, toxic substances, other conditions common to a hospital environment.
Accountabilities
- Follows departmental compliance policies and procedures.
- Maintains patient, family, and employee confidences.
- Performs efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events.
- Demonstrates appropriate delegation of tasks duties in the direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care and unit activities, using appropriate organizational/priority setting skills.
- Contributes to an environment that is conducive to the clinical education of nursing students, other health care students, and other employees, as appropriate.
- Communicates with the patient, family, and other health care providers regarding patient care and nursing's role in the provision of care.
- Collaborates with the patient, family, and other health care providers in the formulation of overall goals and the plan of care, and in decisions related to care and delivery of services.
- Evaluates factors related to safety, effectiveness, availability, and cost when choosing between two or more practice options that would result in the same expected patient outcome.
- Assigns or delegates tasks, it is based on the needs and condition of the patient, the potential for harm, the stability of the patient's condition, the complexity of the task, and the predictability of the outcome.
- Demonstrates competency on all surgical services equipment.
- Delegates tasks and shares responsibility and authority whenever appropriate.
