What are the responsibilities and job description for the Food Safety Manager position at Inspire Brands?
To maintain industry leading proactive food safety management systems, processes and procedures that protect Inspire Brands guests, franchisees, restaurants, and brands. Executing ongoing performance measurement and reporting to standards, supporting continuous improvement with operations teams and other cross-functional partners while assuring design for food safety within operations, equipment, processes, and procedures.
This position sits onsite in our Boston Support Center 80% of the week.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Contribute to the design of new menu items, restaurant layouts, equipment, processes, and procedures with risk assessments, establishing food safety requirements and review and approval processes
- Provide regulatory guidance and support for retail, food manufacturing & promotional merchandise
- Measure, analyze, and report restaurant compliance to food safety systems standards through audit and inspections, directly or by Operations teams. Follow-up with restaurant field leadership to improve food safety execution, educate on food safety process and improve guest experience as determined by internal escalation criteria
- Support and maintain third-party audit and operations food safety audit content, monitoring, and reporting
- Monitor third party food safety audit and health department inspection results for appropriate execution of standards. Provide oversight to Operations teams to ensure audit results are acted upon with corrective actions and preventative program development
- Identify and maintain third-party vendors to include identification, capability assessment, qualifications, performance measurement, and calibration to brand standards and requirements
- Provide technical and subject matter expertise including contributing food safety related articles and material to brand publications as required.
- Create food safety related communications to include alerts, monthly topics, and food safety messages
- Provide support and guidance for restaurant food safety related questions, complaints, and incidents. Monitor restaurant emergency contact hotline and Guest complaint information for food safety related incidents that need further investigation. Respond to include Foodborne illness related cases, health department investigations, and food safety emergency response. Support the Inspire & brand Crisis Teams and provide emergency hotline support
- Develop, review, and maintain all food safety content in training materials, videos, courses, knowledge centers, and operational procedures. Design and conduct regional educational training sessions as requires
- Establish & maintain relationships with local & state health departments.
- Act as the contact for Department of Health and FDA representatives.
- Work cross-functionally with teams across Inspire Brands and supported brands to improve food safety execution, programs and safety of menu items
- Develop and maintain dashboards and reporting for food safety metrics
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s Degree in Food Safety, Food Science, Biology, Culinary or related field
- Nationally Recognized Food Protection Manager Certification
- Certified Professional – Food Safety (CP-FS) credential preferred (If not already obtained, credential will be required upon hire)
- 5 or more years’ experience in retail food safety, regulatory, quality assurance, food safety training or related food industry experience
- Experience in restaurant operations, equipment, and design for food safety
- Restaurant experience preferred
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS or ABILITIES
- Working knowledge of Hazard Analysis of Critical Control Points (HACCP), current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Model Food Code, Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), and general microbiology
- Ability to foster teamwork, build collaborative relationships, and maintain a positive food safety culture with a focus on brand protection, collaboration, and education
- Detail oriented with analytical thinking skills
- Ability to convey a guest-focused, brand-protection mindset
- Skilled in time management and organization with excellent attention to detail
- Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills with the ability to make clear, concise, and convincing food safety recommendations; strong public speaking skills
- Basic ability to make appropriate business judgment and recommendations independent of supervisor
- Ability to travel. May be 25% or greater depending upon the nature of the business, overnight and weekend travel expected
- Working knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel, Power BI, Word, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint, and OneNote
