Senior Data Engineer
Summary :
The Senior Data Engineer plays an important role in delivering a high quality, perfectly functioning data environment to support key Financial Operations. In this role the candidate will be instrumental in designing, maintaining, optimizing, and expanding our data warehouse environment, ensuring data integrity, and providing valuable insights to the business. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of developing robust and scalable ETL pipelines, data warehouses, and data lakes, as well as expertise in modern data engineering tools and technologies. They will work closely with database administrators, business analysts, and stakeholders across the organization to understand their data needs and translate them into effective solutions. The prime responsibilities of this role include working closely with the functional, technical, and data warehouse teams to develop data models and build data pipelines that clean, transform, and aggregate data from disparate sources.
Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to understand their reporting and analytical requirements.
Provide support in accessing and utilizing data from the data warehouse.
Develop and maintain reports and dashboards using [reporting tools including SRSS, OBIEE, Tableau, Power BI, etc.]. It is critical that the candidate be an advocate for best practices and possess excellent communication skills, especially for explaining technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
The Senior Data Engineer is expected to have solid analytical skills and high attention to detail, as well as to be proficient in managing big data using data warehousing and workflow management platforms.
The role will closely work in conjunction with other teams within Corporate Finance, Retail Operations, Revenue Management, Hotel Operations, Groups Department, etc. to insure cohesiveness with corporate goals and initiatives.
They will partner the Senior Business Analyst to document and understand the critical business needs and develop recommendations and solutions to deliver value.
This individual works with IT, business users, and any other departments as needed to support the development and implementation of new business practices.
Success in this role will be determined by the individual's ability to assess deficiencies in current data processes and demonstrate the ability to design, implement, and maintain complex data systems through the development of robust data pipelines and infrastructure.
Provides insights on the current management and usage of the data used by the Finance departments as well as suggests possible enhancements to these processes.
Participates in meetings to understand business requirements and to provide feedback on various aspects of the financial systems.
Research, evaluate, and recommend appropriate technologies for the data warehouse platform, ETL processes, and reporting tools. This will include cloud-based solutions, database systems, and data integration tools.
Help implement robust security measures to protect sensitive financial data, including access controls, encryption, and data masking.
Map data from source systems to the data warehouse schema, applying necessary transformations, cleansing, and standardization.
Implement data validation and reconciliation procedures to ensure data accuracy and consistency across the data warehouse.
Document technical designs, workflows, and best practices to facilitate knowledge sharing and maintain system documentation.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related field of study; or any combination of relevant background, skills and experience. Master's degree is preferred.
Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP)
At least 10 years of experience in data technology and frameworks with background in finance, IT, data governance and infrastructure related to business / financial planning, analysis processes.
Strong knowledge of database systems, data modeling techniques, and SQL proficiency. Proven experience in data engineering, software development, or related roles.
Practical experience in maintaining, optimizing, and expanding data warehouse environments, ensuring data integrity, and access controls.
Excellent interpersonal, organizational, communication and planning skills.
Able to multi-task, work independently and balance requests at peak workloads (or change gears quickly based on priorities) from various departments and upper management.
Familiarity with the Oracle EBS data ecosystem, specifically Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition (OBIEE).
Must have strong command of Microsoft Office programs.
Experience working ETL tools commonly used in data engineering. Python Programing, SQL, and PL / SQL queries knowledge.
General knowledge of infrastructure requirements and components, SharePoint sites, and networks.
Leading ETL and Business Intelligence (BI) initiatives, and utilizing tools like Informatica, Power BI, OBIEE, and Tableau.
