About GO TEC™
Great Opportunities in Technology and Engineering Careers (GO TEC™) is a collaborative hub-and-spoke program, administered by the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research (IALR) in Danville, VA, that builds strategic talent pipelines from K12 to higher education. Starting in middle school, GO TEC partners engage students in Career Connection labs using hands-on learning for high-demand career pathways such as precision machining, welding, IT and cybersecurity, robotics and automation, precision agriculture, biotechnology, energy, mechatronics, and advanced materials.

 

About the Role
In support of IALR’s economic transformation mission and in partnership with the Commonwealth Center for Advanced Manufacturing (CCAM), the GOVA Region 4 (VDOE Sup. Region 1 primarily) Training Coordinator works with K12 educators to deliver GO TEC Career Connections curriculum and ensure up-to-date training on industry-specific equipment used in the program. The Coordinator provides continuous program support by offering a one-of-a-kind training opportunity for GO TEC teachers as well as technical support to ensure proper equipment setup and maintenance for each middle school lab. The GO TEC Training Coordinator works as part of a team to support and expand GO TEC pathways. The GO TEC Training Coordinator is a full-time, grant-funded (approx. three years) position located at the CCAM facility in Prince George County, Virginia, reporting directly to the GO TEC Technical & Training Manager at IALR with activity oversight and coordination by CCAM’s Director of Development.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Coordinate and deliver the GO TEC Career Connections Summer Teacher Training Institute and year-round training for Region 4 teachers.
  • Maintain and operate the GO TEC Region 4 Training Lab in collaboration with CCAM staff.
  • Provide instructional and technical support for GO TEC Career Connections equipment.
  • Offer program support through various formats (in-person, virtual, recorded videos).
  • Serve as the primary contact for equipment installation, troubleshooting, and maintenance in Region 4.
  • Support the implementation of the GO TEC curriculum aligned with industry needs.
  • Foster a collaborative environment to share instructional best practices for GO TEC units.
  • Audit instructional delivery in partnership with IALR GO TEC staff to assess curriculum effectiveness.
  • Organize and execute design and skill competitions for middle school students within GO TEC areas.
  • Travel to IALR and K12 schools as needed, with occasional overnight trips for meetings or support.
  • Build and maintain relationships with Region 4 and state stakeholders to enhance GO TEC initiatives.
  • Represent the IALR Advanced Learning Division at meetings and events.
  • Disseminate GO TEC information through presentations, meetings, and media outlets.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate is a proactive, skilled mentor with a strong background in instructional technology and 3D modeling software, ready to create hands-on, effective learning experiences. They thrive in collaborative environments and bring both technical expertise and a commitment to fostering workforce development.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree with two years of experience using instructional and industry technologies
  • Experience with Solid Works, Fusion 360, or other 3-D modeling software applications preferred.
  • Experience in developing curriculum and/or training to support education and workforce development preferred.
  • Must be able to move freely between facilities
  • Operate and maintain program and training equipment; manual dexterity.
  • Light physical work may be required
  • Must be able to operate and manipulate a keyboard
  • May lift up to 50 pounds regulary

 

Salary & Benefits
IALR will offer a salary of $55,000- $65,000. IALR offers unique career opportunities in an innovative environment, all to support the economic transformation of Southern Virginia.
