Being a Respite Companion or Behavior Support Companion is more than just a job; you'll develop personal relationships with the individuals and families you work with.
Our Respite Companions provide highly trained non-medical direct services and compassionate home companionship to children with developmental disabilities and other special needs. This is a part-time position with flexible hours!
This is for a Client Specific Case on Saturdays. 3:30pm-9pm. 6-8 Hours per day
Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary support staff, effectively addressing day-to-day challenges in providing respite services.
- Provide primary caregivers the opportunity to take breaks from their daily caregiving responsibilities.
- Assist clients, their parents/guardians, and siblings in enjoying a less stressful home environment.
- Work in clients' homes in Long Beach.
- Maintain positive relationships with the families cared for.
- Engage clients through activities they enjoy.
- Provide personal care and support for daily living needs.
- Conduct and lead socialization activities.
- Keep accurate records for each service recipient.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or G.E.D. equivalent.
- Basic computer skills.
- Familiarity with developmental disabilities.
- Availability to work evenings and weekends. The schedule will be based on the needs of the client and family.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Proof of valid driver's license, copy of auto insurance liability coverage, and clear DMV report.
- Operational vehicle.
- Proof of/willingness to receive CPR and First Aid training certifications.
- Must clear background report.
Physical Activity Requirements:
- Ability to lift and carry items weighing up to 20 pounds (e.g., groceries, housewares, or move furniture).
- Ability to assist, guide, and facilitate movement of clients needing physical assistance (e.g., wheelchair transfer, walking).
- Ability to actively participate in frequent recreational activities.
Training:
- Participate in approximately 40 hours of required training during the first three months of employment.
- Includes competency-based training, on-the-job field training, and additional training from IABA professionals or external agencies.
Hours:
- Shifts available: (3:30pm-9pm Saturday)
Wages:
- Starting at $19, depending on previous experience.
