Responsibilities
The Energy Program Senior Monitor is responsible for performing onsite monitoring and reporting of renewable energy system installations to ensure compliance with state and local program requirements, manufacturer installation instructions, building, electrical, mechanical, and plumbing codes and standards, as well as industry best practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Onsite Monitoring: Schedule and conduct monitoring site visits as assigned by IBTS, ensuring that all inspections and reports are completed within the specified turnaround times.
- Quality Assurance: Perform quality assurance audits of renewable energy program installations, inspecting properties and materials to verify compliance with program requirements, plans, specifications, and manufacturer guidelines.
- Documentation: Document audit findings with a complete set of photos to illustrate any issues or deficiencies, and provide detailed descriptions of required corrective actions. Complete and submit applicable inspection forms and photos within 3 days of inspection completion.
- Technical Expertise: Maintain up-to-date knowledge on residential PV products, installation methods, test procedures, and industry standards. Stay informed of changes in solar products and code requirements.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Communicate effectively and professionally with homeowners, business owners, PV installation contractors, and IBTS management. Participate in monthly calls as directed by IBTS.
- Certification Maintenance: Obtain and maintain all required certifications, licenses, and insurance needed within your region.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- Education: BS in Engineering.
- Certifications:
- DDEC Solar PV installation certification.
- OSHA 10-hour certification training.
- Experience: Combined 3 years of experience in the design, installation, or inspection of electrical systems, particularly residential or solar electrical systems.
- Skills:
- Extensive knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and trade practices.
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting plans, specifications, and manufacturer installation instructions.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to operate tools and technology efficiently, including cell phones, digital cameras, computers with internet access, and a basic tool set (e.g., ladder, electrical PPE, measuring tape, compass, inclinometer, flashlight, and screwdrivers).
- Valid Driver’s License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience: 3 years of experience in Solar PV installation, design, or inspection services.
- Certifications:
- DDEC Certified PV Installer.
- NABCEP Certified PV Installer or UL PV Installer Certification.
- License as a General/Electrical Contractor, or certification as a solar system installer.
- IBEW Journeyman, Professional Engineer, Licensed Electrician, or NABCEP Associate Certification with Journeyman experience.

- Expertise in Photovoltaic (PV) Technologies: Ability to recognize quality practices and methods in PV installations.
- Code Knowledge: Understanding of building, electrical, and fire codes as they relate to renewable energy systems.
- Customer Relations: Professionalism in interactions with clients and coworkers at all levels.
- Stakeholder Engagement: Ability to work effectively with a diverse group of stakeholders.
- Project Management: Capability to complete projects on time.
Physical Demands
This position requires regular travel to job sites, climbing ladders, working at heights, and lifting equipment up to 50 pounds. The role involves prolonged periods of walking, standing, and working in various outdoor conditions, including extreme weather. Manual dexterity, good vision, and hearing are necessary for operating tools and conducting detailed inspections.
