Role Description: This is a full-time on-site role for a Research Scientist at ILSE in Union, NJ. The Research Scientist will be responsible for conducting experiments, analyzing data, writing reports, and presenting findings. They will collaborate with other team members to advance scientific research projects and contribute to the development of innovative products.
The position will support for the company’s research activities in molecular biology, biochemistry, genomics and microbiology, including projects to support the preclinical development of novel therapeutics. Work includes assay development and screening in molecular diagnostics, next generations sequencing, BSL2 microbial research, including susceptibility testing and genetic engineering, mechanism of action studies and new assay development.
Key responsibilities include:
- Conducting microbiological assays to determine the antibacterial, antiviral, and/or antifungal potency of new compounds for preclinical drug development.
- Microbial strain engineering through molecular techniques.
- Preparation and analysis of NGS samples.
- Basic immunological screening (i.e. ELISA).
- Conducting in vitro / enzymatic mechanism of action experiments defining antimicrobial activity.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform experiments independently and/or in collaboration with other scientists as appropriate.
- Ability to prepare solutions, perform routine weight to molarity conversions and routine dilution calculations.
- Performing routine lab maintenance tasks
- Analyzing, interpreting and summarizing data for presentation to team.
- Reviewing primary literature, generating, revising and reviewing lab records, experimental protocols, standard operating procedures (SOPs), experimental reports and computer databases in accordance with the guidelines.
- Maintaining accurate and current experimental records and laboratory notebook.
Qualifications:
- PhD in a relevant scientific discipline with 2-3 years postdoctoral and/or industry experience.
- Strong background in life sciences, pharmaceuticals, or related fields
- Strong laboratory experience in microbiology, molecular biology, or biochemistry required.
- Prior experience in molecular diagnostics, biochemical assay development, NGS desired.
- Experience with tissue culture, mass spectrophotometry analysis and immunological assays a plus.
- Ability to work independently, and flexibly in a fast-paced research environment.
- Good organizational and record-keeping skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
- A proven ability to solve problems, multi-task, and accomplish goals in a time-sensitive manner.
- Excellent writing and communication skills as well as proven ability to work well in a multidisciplinary team environment are essential.
