The Institute for the Study of War (ISW) is seeking a Human Resources Associate who will report to the Director of Human Resources.

Position Summary:
ISW promotes an understanding of war and conflict by providing data and critical analysis to key American political and military leaders. In addition, ISW seeks to educate civilians about war and conflict, thus bridging the gaps between military and civilian decision-makers. ISW aims to improve how the United States formulates and executes its national security policy. ISW is vigilant at monitoring crises around the world and has a track record of accurately predicting potential and actual conflicts. ISW provides a proven platform for emerging researchers and analysts to launch their careers in an innovative and highly relevant project.
ISW seeks a full-time Human Resources Associate to support the Director of Human Resources with a focus on data management and operational support. This position requires a dedicated and detail-oriented professional with experience in HR practices and employee management systems. The candidate will perform varied HR tasks from recruitment processes to policy drafting and data reporting, contributing to our mission of maintaining a robust, motivated workforce.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage and execute job postings and advertisements on platforms such as BambooHR and LinkedIn.
- Handle the administrative aspects of onboarding and offboarding for interns and employees, ensuring smooth transitions and compliance with company policies.
- Assist in responding to background checks and clearance inquiries for departed employees as requested by investigators.
- Maintain internal communication channels to disseminate information, such as holiday schedules, health advisories, and general announcements.
- Assist in drafting HR policies and procedures with guidance from the Director of HR, Finance team, and President to ensure compliance and effective HR management.
- Assist in the administration and management of employee benefits programs, including health insurance, retirement plans, and other wellness initiatives, ensuring accurate enrollment, timely communication, and compliance with relevant regulations.
- Manage the Human Resources Information System (HRIS) to ensure accurate data management and efficient employee data processing.
- Oversee the HR department’s inbox, ensuring timely responses and appropriate escalations as necessary.
- Support vendor management, including coordination with HRIS, PEO, insurance providers, and others.
- Ensure accurate and timely quarterly insurance reporting to maintain compliance and oversight.
- Track and manage employee travel records to support efficient travel planning and policy adherence.
- Undertake additional administrative tasks or projects as assigned (i.e. organizing the HR digital file structure), contributing to department efficiency and organizational objectives.
Required education and experience:
- A bachelor’s degree in human resources management, Business Administration, or a related field, with 2-3 years of experience in an HR role.
- Proven ability to manage multiple tasks with high attention to detail and confidentiality.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of writing clear and concise reports and maintaining open communication across all company levels.
- Demonstrated expertise in HRIS platforms and proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and other related business software.
- A proven track record of enhancing organizational HR functionalities through proactive initiative and supporting a high-performing team.
- Flexibility and imagination to solve problems for a dynamic, changing, growing, and scaling team.

Applications will be considered on a rolling basis. The salary range for this role is $65,000 - $75,000. The final salary offered to the selected candidate will depend based upon but not limited to the following factors: the candidate’s prior experience, level of education, market data for comparable roles and the level of hire based on the previously stated qualifications.
