What are the responsibilities and job description for the Grant Writer position at Institute for Therapy through the Arts?
We are seeking a Grant Writer Independent Contractor. In collaboration with the Development Director, the Grant Writer will lead the Institute for Therapy through the Arts’ (ITA) efforts to obtain grant funding from family, corporate, government and other charitable foundations. The Grant Writer will identify and research grant opportunities; make recommendations about which grants to apply for; and project manage all aspects of the application including creating and managing the timeline, requesting program data from ITA’s Management Team, communicating with the Development Director, and completing and submitting grant applications. The Grant Writer will ensure proposals are crafted to be competitive and compelling.
The consultant role would focus on:
- Research and identify grant opportunities
- Maintain the overall grants calendar.
- Bi-weekly meeting with the Director of Development.
- Work closely with the Development Director to determine which grants to apply for, create a strategy and timeline, identify needed data, etc.
- Use project management best practices to successfully oversee and execute all aspects of submitting LOIs and grant applications.
- Meet with the Development Director annually to discuss funding needs for general operations and programs and to obtain priority goals for the year.
- Request information needed for grant applications from Development Director, Program Directors, Office Manager, and other managers, as needed.
- Draft Letters of Intent and Grant Applications in accordance with predetermined deadlines
- Submit 2 grant applications per month
- For grants that are awarded to ITA, maintain calendar of report deadlines, and create reports requested by funders
- Maintain current knowledge of organizational developments
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Minimum of 3 years nonprofit experience grant writing experience
- Experience writing grants for mental health services preferred
- An interest in Creative Arts Therapy, a bonus

Additional Notes:
The Grant-Writer will be a part-time independent contractor. This freelance position is remote with an expectation of approximately 15 hours per month.
The Grant Writer will required to have their own computer, internet access, and other office equipment and software necessary to prepare grant applications.
