Reports to:  Executive Director of Elementary Education and Principal

 

Duration: 10 month position

 

Nature of Work

To provide direct and indirect instruction to AIG students, promote advanced learning opportunities for all students, and collaborate with school personnel to ensure differentiation for all AIG learners.

 

Qualifications and Licensure

  • Certified North Carolina AIG teaching license
  • 5 years or more experience in classroom teaching with experience working with academically and intellectually gifted students
  • Exceptionally strong organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills, required
  • In-depth knowledge of the North Carolina Standard Course of Study and strong instructional pedagogy

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Develop and implement challenging and engaging curriculum aligned with state standards and tailored to the unique learning styles and abilities of gifted students. This includes incorporating advanced content, independent study projects, research opportunities, and creative problem-solving activities.
  • Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse needs of gifted learners, providing appropriate levels of challenge and support.
  • Organizes enrichment experiences to develop potential within students and enhance the learning experience.
  • Models differentiation strategies.
  • Collaborate with regular classroom teachers, counselors, administrators, and parents to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for gifted students.
  • Coordinates, administers, and interprets appropriate testing for state identification of AIG students.
  • Maintains accurate and complete records as required by law, district policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Maintain a positive and supportive classroom environment that fosters intellectual curiosity, creativity, and respect.
  • Follows and implements all Wilson County Schools’ policies and procedures.
  • Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
  • Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and establishes clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects.
  • Communicates expectations clearly.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth.
  • Co-teaches with other staff members.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to stay current with best practices in gifted education.
  • Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

 

Physical Requirements (if applicable)

 

  • Work in this classification is considered light physical work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to move objects.
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle. 
  • Must be able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, Smart Boards, and document cameras.

  • Must be capable of establishing rapport and trust quickly with a variety of individuals within the school, district and community.
  • Must be able to embrace and encourage the acceptance of diversity.
  • Must be able to create a positive atmosphere that promotes cooperation with administration, parents, coworkers, and students.
  • Awareness of local, state, and federal policies that impact students.
