The Associate Commissioner reports directly to the Maryland Insurance Commissioner and is the agency’s senior staff subject matter expert on property & casualty insurance. The responsibilities of the Associate Commissioner, Property & Casualty include (i) oversight of the day-to-day operation of the Property & Casualty Division; (ii) monitoring the health of the Maryland property and casualty market, including the availability and affordability of insurance; and (iii) engagement at the National Association of Insurance Commissioners and other national groups on issues that impact Maryland consumers. The Property & Casualty Division consists of the Consumer Complaints Unit, which investigates consumer complaints involving issues related to their property and casualty insurance, and the Rates & Forms Unit which reviews rate / rule and form filings forms form compliance with Maryland law. The Associate Commissioner also advises the Maryland Insurance Commissioner on various consumer and industry-related issues, including regulations and legislation, and may prepare reports, and testify before, the General Assembly.
