- Friendly atmosphere where people enjoy not only their work and what they're creating but enjoy helping each other as well.
- Bottomless Coffee, Espressos, and Ping Pong!!
About the Role:
Integer is building the next generation of tools to help manufacturers make the right decisions at the right time. To accomplish this, we are hiring a Manufacturing Simulation Engineer that is an expert in building and deploying systems and frameworks of simulations for complex multi-domain challenges. We are looking for someone that can select, integrate, and build simulation workflows to solve complex manufacturing challenges. The ideal candidate will have broad experience with a variety of simulation tools, approaches, and methodologies to help develop new modeling and simulation tools to improve manufacturing processes.
The Manufacturing Simulation Engineer will work both individually and in concert with other engineers, subject-matter experts, and program management to devise suitable modeling strategies (including physics-based, numerical, and machine-learning approaches) and subsequently to produce robust, reliable models for several customers across government and industry.
The successful candidate must demonstrate an attitude for growth, continuously expanding their knowledge and skill to remain on the cutting-edge. The candidate must be organized and detail oriented. This role may involve interacting with customers whose needs are constantly evolving and are sometimes difficult to articulate; thus, strong communication skills will also be beneficial.
Integer is a science and technology research and development organization. As such, much of our work entails developing solutions for complex problems that presently have no known solutions. To achieve internal and customer project goals all candidates must be able to perform research, understand new concepts from other engineering disciplines on advanced and complex topics, and document findings in a way that is easy for non-experts to understand.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Develop automated simulation frameworks for multi-domain and multi-physics problems in manufacturing and materials processing systems involving composites, additive manufacturing, and thermal processing of advanced materials.
- Develop modeling and simulation strategies to achieve project goals using a combination of physics-based modeling, numerical techniques, statistical methods, and/or deep learning as appropriate.
- Engage with partners and customers to understand customer or user needs and elicit project requirements.
- Work collaboratively with software engineering and business development team members to develop new design and analysis tools, products, and services using modeling and simulation tools and insights derived from their application.
- Design and optimize comprehensive simulation workflows for improved performance and reliability.
- Develop visualizations of complex datasets derived from simulation outputs.
- Contribute to documentation of research and development activities.
Core Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in materials science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar technical discipline.
- Demonstrated experience developing and using simulation pipelines and frameworks that use multiple simulation tools and simulation methods.
- Experience in writing and modifying scientific code in Python, Julia, Fortran, and/or C .
- Demonstrated experience using APIs, scripting, and/or testing automation tools to automate modeling and simulation.
- Demonstrated subject matter experience in one or more of the following technical areas:
- Mechanics of materials simulation
- Composite materials and structures design and analysis
- Analysis and simulation of thermal, mechanical, and electrical material processing
- Molecular dynamics modeling
- Development of Digital Twins and Digital Threads for manufacturing systems
- U.S. citizenship. Must have the ability to obtain a U.S. Secret security clearance that requires U.S. citizenship. Applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
Additional Desired Qualifications:
- A graduate degree (Masters/PhD) in material science, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or similar technical discipline. A record of relevant industry experience, technical leadership, publications, or other recognitions for expertise may substitute for an advanced degree.
- Experience with High Performance Computing (HPC).
- Deep technical knowledge of simulation solver technologies, numerical analysis, and deep learning methods.
- Technical knowledge of optimization algorithms and approaches.
- Experience working in and advanced manufacturing environment or developing tools and applications for manufacturing processes, including Digital Twins and Digital Threads.
- Familiarity with machine control systems including sensing, communication, and system level controls for electric plants, machinery, and electromechanical systems.
- Experience with modeling, analysis, and interpretation of non-destructive evaluation or inspection methods for composites and structures.
- Experience with integrating real-world data streams to inform simulations.
- Experience with the development of physics-based deep learning models
- Experience conducting detailed simulations using FEA and CFD to solve complex engineering challenges.
- Experience overseeing and managing simulation tools and data at an enterprise level to ensure efficiency and accuracy.
- Experience performing co-simulation of multi-domain, multi-time-step, physics-based models to ensure holistic analysis and results.
