Integral Blue is seeking a Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Metro Region Foreman that will directly supervise and conduct Integral Blue’s field activities related to Metro Region Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) maintenance. Additionally, this position will be responsible for several administrative duties such as ensuring other field personnel are tracking their labor hours appropriately, working with the purchasing department to obtain material quotes and ensuring equipment removed from the field is properly bench tested and assessed for warranty replacement or Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA). The Foreman will also assist with fostering a culture of safety amongst other field staff as well as be responsible for communicating safety concerns. The position will require close coordination with the ITS Maintenance Project Managers and ITS Engineers.
This position will work out of Integral Blue’s Corporate office located Auburn Hills, MI and will require regular travel to locations throughout Michigan’s lower peninsula. This position will be provided with a take home company vehicle.

Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day field maintenance activities of Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) ITS equipment in the Metro Region, operated by the Southeast Michigan Transportation Operations Center (SEMTOC).
- Perform remedial and preventative maintenance of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras, Dynamic Message Signs (DMS), Microwave Vehicle Detection Systems (MVDS), Travel Time Signs (TTS), Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) Trailblazer signs, Curve Warning Systems, Truck Parking Information and Management Systems (TPIMS) and other ancillary ITS field devices.
- Oversee MDOT tower and shelter locations, including remedial and preventative maintenance of lighting, Heating Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), Uninterruptible Power Supplies (UPS) and generator back up power systems. Work with SEMTOC operations staff and the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the issuance of Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) in the event of tower lighting failures. Responsibilities also include scheduling of shelter and yard cleanups on, at minimum, a quarterly basis.
- Respond, secure, investigate and document reports of Third-Party damage. This includes working with Integral Blue Project Managers, Field Superintendent, and sub-contractors to restore such damage to prior conditions in a timely and efficient manner.
- Identify, coordinate and assist in the execution of lane and shoulder closures. Have a comprehensive understanding of MDOT work zone traffic control guidelines including the geometric requirements, equipment, and traffic control devices necessary for setup and removal of closures in a safe and efficient manner.
- Conduct site surveys for new and/or upgrade device locations and compile information needed for material and labor quotes.
- Perform remedial and preventative maintenance of the MDOT Metro region Local Area Network (LAN) including fiber optic, copper and wireless communications systems. Perform basic network troubleshooting and work with Integral Blue network engineers to correct network related issues as-needed.
- Work closely with Integral Blue engineers and MDOT staff in the prompt delivery of repairs to systems located at SEMTOC. Systems include but are not limited to: head-end networking equipment, firewalls, partner agency and Wide Area Network (WAN) connections, video walls and associated software applications, workstations and Advanced Traffic Management System (ATMS) applications.
- Respond to afterhours service calls as needed.
Qualifications Required
- Existing knowledge, skills, and abilities related to ITS field devices such as, but not limited to: CCTV Cameras, DMS, MVDS, TTS, Curve Warning Systems and TPIMS.
- Existing knowledge, skills, and abilities related to video display systems, IP networks and backhaul communications such as wireless, cellular, and fiber optics.
- Knowledge of methods and techniques of troubleshooting and diagnosing equipment failure.
- Skilled in operating specialized electronic testing tools, diagnosing problems in sensory and control equipment, and recommending corrective action.
- Skilled in reading and interpreting plans sets, maps, electrical diagrams and specifications.
- Skilled in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
- Ability to work cooperatively with MDOT personnel, contractors, governmental agencies, the general public and others to prevent, resolve, or minimize ITS related problems.
- Ability to work under extreme weather conditions and environmental conditions of work site.
- Working knowledge of MDOT Asset Management Database.
- Experience working with electrical and grounding systems.
- Excellent problem solving and analytical ability.
- Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Good written and verbal skills.
- Computer proficient and have experience with Windows and Microsoft Office.
- High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate.
- Current and valid driver’s license and a safe driving record.
Supervision and Oversight
- Review and respond to work orders created by Transportation Operations Center (TOC) staff in the MDOT Asset Management Database.
- Work with Field Superintendent to schedule manpower and equipment as-needed.
- Complete daily Statewide Region maintenance line-ups. This includes, but is not limited to:
- Assigning remedial maintenance work orders to ITS Technicians.
- Assigning preventative maintenance work orders to ITS Technicians.
- Assist with identifying non-routine maintenance work.
- Assist with training and educating other technicians.
- Assist Field Superintendent with developing, maintaining, implementing and enforcing installation and maintenance best practices.
- Assist Project Managers and ITS Engineers with monitoring project man hours and schedule, coordinating material availability and usage as well as conformance to designs and specifications.
- Assist with communicating and coordinating site work activities with Subcontractors as well as inspecting Subcontractor operations to ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Assist with ensuring all specialty tools and equipment removed from Integral Blue warehouses are properly signed out and returned.
- Ensure all material removed from the field is properly tracked, documented, bench tested and assessed for: warranty replacement, Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) or disposal.
- Ensure all material removed from Integral Blue warehouses is properly tracked and documented.
- Work with the Warehouse Manager, Field Superintendent and Project Manager to monitor spare part par levels and communicate shortages promptly.
- Support the Warehouse Manager with bi-annual material audits.
- Assist with ensuring other field personnel are entering their timesheets appropriately (correct Integral Blue job number, work category, etc.)

- Ensure all other field personnel working on Metro Region maintenance use all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Monitor current as well as forecasted weather and road conditions at work locations. Communicate safety and productivity concerns related to weather and road conditions to Field Superintendent.
- Enforce site safety plans in coordination with the Field Superintendent and Human Resources Department.
