Independent Living Caseworker
This possition is a part time, temorary position with the expectation of a promotion to a full time position as Independent Living Program Coordinator.
BASIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Assist ILP Coordinator in completing the following:
- Monthly face-to-face visits/contacts with ILP foster youth. This can include visits to schools and in their homes.
- Extensive case noting is required. One must be able to write case notes objectively, leaving out personal bias, and record all interactions with the client.
- To develop and maintain a Transitional Plan for every program participant. The plan will identify training and supportive service needs and the methods to be used in meeting those needs. The T-Plan will need to be updated every 6 months for the individual youth. It is hoped the information will include, the youth’s foster parent’s input, schools, counselors, and DHS workers.
- To develop, implement, and maintain innovative ILP services for foster youth. This may include at least monthly ILP training groups, and possibly weekly training sessions. Weekly sessions provide greater opportunity for the youth to make at least one in during the month. It is important to arrange guest trainers/speakers, outings, social activities, etc. These activities may be coordinated with TLP youth.
- To attend Youth Decision Meetings as requested by the Department of Human Resources Caseworkers to keep informed of youth progress and any needs for support and/or assistance.
- To communicate with the DHS caseworker, foster-parent, Citizen Review Board and involved community partners regarding youth participation and progress in the program
- To provide the Ansell Casey Life Skills Assessment to each youth, and a foster-parent, who is accepted in the program.
- To monitor the youth’s progress in relation to the established services being provided.
- To create and send out a monthly ILP newsletter.
- To coordinate services with other agency personnel.
- To be responsible for developing and maintaining proper files and written records, including monthly progress reports, billings, and final report to the state.
- To meet the required timelines as outlined by the contract regarding youth case files.
- To comply with agency policies and procedures.
- To demonstrate responsibility in the many office skills of organization, planning, attention to detail, filing, record keeping, and time management.

- To travel to attend ILP Retreats, conferences, trainings, and youth activities as deemed appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
- QUALIFICATIONS
- To have a minimum of two (2) years college education and/or experience.
2. To have knowledge and working experience in the area of teaching techniques and social skill building.
- To have the ability to communicate clearly and concisely in both writing and speaking.
- To be able to establish a relationship of trust with staff, foster parents, and youth.
- To possess computer skills and a working knowledge of office equipment.
- To have a valid Oregon driver’s license, an acceptable driving record during the last three years, and reliable transportation.
- To have a cleared Criminal History Check.
- To have ability and the experience of providing leadership, inspiration, and modeling positive social and moral values to youth who are considered at-risk.
- To have excellent problem solving skills and the ability to work independently.
- To be able to work as a team member.
