Engineering Technician – Common Avionics and Electrical Engineering

Overview

Provides research and design support to the Avionics Support Section of the USCG C5ISR Engineering Branch at Elizabeth City, NC.   

Responsibilities

Responsibilities:

• Research, design, develop and test electronic components and/or systems for government aircraft.
• Design electronic circuits and components for government aviation and ground support equipment (GSE) for use in fields such as telecommunications, aerospace instruments and controls.
• Assist in providing research for parts required to maintain government cross-platform avionics and C5ISR mission efforts as required by ESD/ESB project officers and managers.
• Assist Electronic Engineer in managing technical data packages.
• Proficient in the use of electronic test equipment.
• Interface with all products lines integrating cross platform avionic capability to facilitate, perform avionics and electrical system design, development, integration and testing for common avionics aircraft modification and sustainment programs to include but not limited to: component compatibility/reliability/interoperability, ergonomics/aircraft layout, data transfer, voice communications, software/hardware, wiring drawing/illustration review and approval, equipment selection, acquisition and obsolescence, diminishing manufacturing sources, TEMPEST, laser safety, electromagnetic environmental effects, electrical loading, communication security, system development/prototyping and integration, research, testing and analysis, navigation, flight safety, airworthiness, certification, production, technical documentation, implementation and field support.
• Shall assist with the research of existing and potential common aircraft avionics and electrical systems, design solutions, components, interface and performance requirements, operating parameters and related program elements.
• Shall assist with the research of requirements, regulations and statutes necessary to implement airworthiness standards, define and accomplish desired levels of design and certification, define and employ standard aeronautical industry practices, and comply with all USCG engineering standards.
• Work with and assist the Avionics/Electrical Systems Engineer as required to address and resolve current, emergent and projected avionics and electrical anomalies impacting any phase of Common avionics upgrade and sustainment.
• Shall participate in an advisory role in planning/progress meetings and technical reviews.
• Shall review all deliverable item submissions for accuracy and make recommendations for approval or improvements.
• Shall participate as an advisor to all test and evaluation events.
• Support all USCG contract/MIPR documentation development and budget estimates for the cross platform avionic systems.
• Develop and review engineering drawings and operational procedures to provide

designs, operational characteristics and specifications for various complex avionic components

• Develop and review engineering drawings and operational procedures to provide red-line

corrections for “as built” configurations.

• Travel to support avionics design reviews and working group meetings as directed by ESD/ESB.
• Provide ESB with appropriate actions and track product line progress.

Qualifications

Required:

• Associate’s degree in any STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field desired, but a proven work history of aeronautic avionics and aviation electrical systems evaluation and repair may substitute for degree qualification.
• Shall possess a SECRET security clearance at time of proposal submission and must maintain the SECRET security clearance for the life of the contract.
• Six (6) years’ experience in electronic theory and material knowledge.
• Six (6) years’ experience in avionics systems associated with Coast Guard or other government aircraft.
• Six (6) years’ experience in avionics and electronics test equipment including:
  • Communication analyzer
  • Frequency Domain Reflectometer
  • Network Analyzer
  • Oscilloscope
  • Data bus tester/Copilot software
  • AC/DC test equipment
  • Software defined radio test equipment
• Experience with DHS/DoD specifications and standards to include USCG specifications

and standards.

• Possess and maintain a U.S. Secret Security clearance.
