Position: Surgical Scheduler/ Biller
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Scheduling:
- Receive surgical procedure requests from physicians and patients.
- Verify insurance coverage and eligibility for scheduled procedures.
- Coordinate surgery dates and times with patients, surgeons, and operating room availability.
- Collect necessary patient information, including medical history, pre-operative instructions, and required documentation.
Billing and Coding:
- Accurately code surgical procedures using appropriate medical billing codes
- Submit electronic and paper claims to insurance companies.
- Monitor claim statuses and follow up on outstanding bills.
- Resolve billing discrepancies and denials with insurance companies.
- Maintain patient billing records and ensure accurate patient balances.
Communication and Coordination:
- Communicate with patients regarding appointment details, pre-operative instructions, and billing information.
- Collaborate with surgeons, nurses, and other healthcare staff to ensure smooth surgical scheduling.
- Liaise with insurance companies to verify coverage and address billing issues.
What We're Looking For:
- Strong understanding of medical terminology and anatomy to accurately interpret patient records and coding.
- Proficiency in using CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding systems.
- Knowledge of different insurance plans and procedures for verifying coverage.
- Excellent communication skills to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and insurance companies.
- Familiarity with electronic health records (EHR) systems and medical billing software.
- Ability to manage a complex schedule, prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent
- Medical billing and coding certification preferred
- Experience in healthcare administration or medical office setting beneficial
