What are the responsibilities and job description for the Laboratory Assistant II position at Integrated Molecular Diagnostics?
Status: Full Time / Non-Exempt
Shift: Monday - Friday (2:30pm - 11:00pm)
Summary: The Laboratory Assistant will assist the Molecular Department Technologist in performing various basic laboratory procedures inclusive of COVID testing using laboratory equipment to facilitate production. This is a mid-level Laboratory Assistant position in the Clinical Laboratory.
Core Responsibilities:
- Sorts and receives specimens in the department
- Records the required information in laboratory log books, computer, specimen accession sheets, workflow drafts, etc., to ensure quality assurance of specimens
- Performs simple laboratory tasks of operating equipment, printing extra labels, recording data, and specimen storage and retrieval and other clerical duties as assigned
- Aliquot samples in a certified hood
- Prepares reagents for laboratory procedures as directed in the procedure manual and under the direct supervision of a certified technologist
- Performs various housekeeping and/or maintenance tasks to keep laboratory and equipment in clean and operable condition
- Maintains department inventory and orders supplies as needed
- Participates in QA activities as assigned
- Resolves pending lists
- Find missing samples
- Maintains files for department records
- Disposes of biohazardous material according to established procedures
- Completes training and competency checklists as needed
- Prepares and organizes written data, printouts, and other documents for Cytology Technologist/CLS review
Additional Responsibilities (may be assigned):
- Reports problems concerning individual cases, tests, equipment and supplies to laboratory supervisor or lead technologist to ensure timely resolution
- Loads, runs, and unloads some automated testing procedures
- Assists with the department quality improvement or safety program
- Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor/Manager or Lead Technologist
- Assists in operating automated equipment per SOP
- Assists in reagent and solution preparation
- Read and understand all SOP's related to the department and adhere to all department rules and protocols
- Maintain laboratory in a clean, functional state, as well as cleaning or performing/scheduling equipment and instrument maintenance, as required
- Attends department meetings and company in-service trainings to enhance knowledge on testing and systems
- Receives supplies used by laboratory staff to maintain sufficient inventory
- Other duties as assigned by the Laboratory Supervisor, Lead Technologist and/or Pathology

Education: Bachelor's in chemistry or equivalent
Experience: One (1) to Two (2) year's experience in a similar capacity and knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
Qualification Requirements:
- Basic understanding of laboratory techniques preferred
- Basic understanding of MS Office programs
- Ability to communicate effectively
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to work independently
- Must be able to work in a fast paced, multi-tasking environment and maintain production and quality standards
- Must be able to work in a biohazard environment and comply with safety policies and standards outlined in the Safety Manual
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $28.00 per hour
