Job Summary
The Metal Shop Specialist will weld, cut, and braze metal pieces and products by using flame-cutting and hand welding equipment to create custom metal commercial doors.
Duties/Responsibilities
- Duties and responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
- Plans details of work order procedures; gathers required tools and materials based on instructions and specifications provided for the job.
- Repairs and fabricates various items and equipment using cutting, burning, and welding techniques and equipment.
- Monitors the welding, burning, and fitting process to ensure parts are not overheated or damaged by warping, distortion, expansion, or shrinkage.
- Prepares, assembles, and tacks weld parts and surfaces to be welded.
- Maintains, organizes, and cleans equipment and the work area.
- Notifies supervisor when faulty equipment or defective materials are discovered.
- Identifies opportunities for productivity improvement and cost reduction.
- Complies with all safety and environmental requirements and reports all discrepancies to management.
- Regular and reliable attendance at job site is required.
- Any other duties as assigned.
- Proven experience as a Welder.
- Experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG, MMA, etc.).
- Strong understanding of detailed architectural drawings, schematics, shop drawings, and blueprints.
- Thorough understanding of machines and tools used in welding including designs, uses, maintenance and repair.
- Excellent ability to read and listen to assignments given in a variety of forms.
- Desire to keep work area clean and maintain equipment.
- Ability to work efficiently with little direct instructions.
- Extreme attention to detail
- Completion of a professional certification in welding.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- May require supervisory responsibilities.
- Ability to lift up to 75 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to weld components that are vertical, flat, or overhead.
- Must have enough manual ability and stability as required for precision work
- Ability to work in extreme temperatures and wet/humid weather.
- Ability to stand for long periods of time and maintain focus.
