What are the responsibilities and job description for the Controls Engineer I position at Integrated Packaging Machinery, LLC?
The Controls Engineer is responsible for the complete design process of packaging equipment lines. This process includes defining required specifications, system architecture, description of operation, communication tables, hardware and software design, design implementation and support. Our designs will be in accordance to the NEC (National Electrical Code), NFPA (National Fire Protection Associations) and UL (Underwriters Laboratory) guidelines.
Essential Job Functions
- Work cohesively with a design team made up of sales, project management, mechanical engineering, vendors, controls engineers, and technicians to develop working concept that meets customer requirements.
- Provide on call electrical support for customer, IPM controls and technician installation teams.
- Develop system hardware using AutoCAD electrical.
- Manage project schedule throughout engineering, manufacturing and installation phases to ensure timely release of packaging equipment.
- Use Epicor software to track jobs, parts, and builds, mechanically and electrically
- Consult with customers, engineers and vendors regarding project specs and scope of project.
- Verify design and installation will comply with IPM standards, code, and customer specs/requirements.
- Review electrical specifications and drawings of vendor equipment for purchase.
- Rework design on legacy systems and non-IPM designs to work cohesively together.
- Draft controls documents for use by customer, sales, project management, controls engineers, and technicians.
- Partner with electrical group to draft bid packages and define scope of work.
- Write reports and compiling necessary data to accompany electrical design for customers and installation
- Travel to customer site for sales support, engineering review or installation support.
- Other duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications:
- 1 - 5 years’ experience
- Proficient with various software MS Office, Allen Bradley, AutoCAD-E, EPICOR or other ERP program
- Strong Rockwell Automation experience
- Previous experience with Kuka or Fanuc Robotics
- Working knowledge of National Electric Code standards
Educational Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related field
Travel Requirements
- Travel is required; approximately 50 percent travel.
Physical Requirements:
- Standing and sitting for extended periods of time
- Exposure to High/Low voltage environments
- Exposure to elevations
Professional Certifications:
- UL 508A certification (Underwriters Laboratory) preferred
