Responsibilities & Expectations :
The Area General Manager has Profit and Loss responsibility for the entire Power Systems division, encompassing a broad scope of operations including generator distribution, sales, repair, and service. This role is pivotal in ensuring the ongoing success of the division, with a strong focus on maintaining a strategic relationship with our primary partner, Rehlko, and ensuring compliance with all contractual obligations. Additionally, the Area General Manager is responsible for cross-selling IPS services, leveraging opportunities to expand our service offerings and enhance customer relationships. This role is instrumental in leading the business unit to achieve safety, operational, profit, sales, and customer KPI goals through the IPS operating system, CIPS (Continuous Improvement Process Solution). The AGM oversees daily operations, ensuring customer and employee satisfaction, driving growth, and elevating productivity and quality workmanship to meet IPS standards.
The role focuses on building and sustaining a culture centered on IPS values : Safety, Integrity, Teamwork, Accountability, Customer Focus, and Entrepreneurial Spirit, employing a Servant Leadership approach. Additionally, the AGM is responsible for recruiting and developing a high-performing organization, improving employee engagement, and ensuring the division meets industry standards and customer expectations. This position reports directly to the Regional General Manager.
Sales & Customer Service - Responsible for setting sales strategy and directing execution for the Sales function for the IPS Power Systems Sellers. Ensure optimal customer problem resolution resulting in an "Unmatched Customer Experience".
Operations - Responsible for managing Power Systems division operations; hire, train and evaluate new employees, determine optimal organization design and assess the performance of the business against the business's goals and plans.
Continuous Improvement - Responsible for leading all aspects of the CIPS program - making it the way we work at the location. Entails an operating philosophy of moving decision making down to the lowest level possible and empowering employees to use data and visual management to make decisions that eliminate waste, reduces rework, and warranty issues.
Financials - Responsible for the development of business strategy, annual operating plan (AOP) and tactical execution to reach objectives. Proactively monitor key financial, sales, cost, operating, and customer service trends and course correct as required.
Safety - Responsible for maintaining an environment in accordance with established HS&E requirements to ensure the protection of employees, the public, and the environment. Promoting and enforcing safety practices that contribute to minimizing incidents, with a particular focus on keeping the TRIR score under 1.0. This goal is essential for demonstrating a commitment to safety excellence and continuously improving performance in preventing workplace injuries and incidents.
Quality - Responsible for development and compliance with the IPS quality management system. Ensure compliance with Rehlko standards along with industry and customer specifications to drive an Unmatched Customer Experience. Drive training and execution to standard work instruction and mature the division's current systems.
Leadership - Demonstrates strong communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders at all levels, from executive management to personnel and customers, ensuring alignment and collaboration across the organization. Success hinges on the ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams, optimize resources, and leverage data analysis to identify and act on industry, market, and service trends, addressing issues and capturing opportunities. Demonstrated leadership, planning, and organizational abilities are essential, along with effective resource and talent management to build and sustain high-performing teams.
The ideal candidate will embody the principles of Servant Leadership, exemplifying IPS values to remove obstacles, support team development, and achieve performance objectives while driving continuous improvement.
Qualifications and Competencies :
- BA / BS in Engineering, Supply Chain, Operations Management, Business or related technical degree.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in a related industry, including backup generator sales and service.
- 5 years of experience managing large-scale projects.
- 3 years of Lean Manufacturing or Six-Sigma problem solving skills
- Proven expertise in strategic planning and business development, with a demonstrated track record of successfully driving growth and expanding business divisions.
- Ability to act as a change agent, facilitating organizational change, and ensuring the division adapts effectively.
- Management experience in a geographically broad organization.
- Willingness to travel to the company's Power Systems branches and customer sites, as well as occasional travel to other locations to meet with partners and vendors.
- Entrepreneurial self-starter with the ability to manage and prioritize projects by delegating appropriately.
- Ability to identify issues, analyze data, and make informed decisions. Able to understand complex technical instructions and manage various variables.
- Ability to work with unit teams at various levels and manage projects as needed.
- Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical documents. Ability to respond effectively to the most sensitive inquiries or complaints.
- Ability to make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics.
- MBA and Lean Certification is a plus.
