Title: Lab Assistant
Location: Newark, DE
Duration: 6-months to a year with a possibility of converting to FTE
Working shift Mon-Fri as early as 7/8/9
Must have:
- Receive, Unpack and Organize incoming samples (from patients) and sample boxes.
- Discard the samples after testing, disposing of microbial cultures.
- Won't be doing lab testing work.
- Maintain inventories and dispose chemicals if required.
- Daily, weekly or monthly cleaning of lab equipment and Biosafety cabinets.
- Read and understand the SOPs. Will record work in logbooks.
- Other duties can be assigned as well to assist technicians.
Requirements:
- HS diploma required, Associates will also work.
- Lab experience or sample handling experience will be preferred.
- Attention to detail and strong work ethic.
Job Description:
- Obtain working knowledge of the Quality System and Laboratory Information System.
- Support the daily operation of a microbiological testing laboratory.
- Receive, unpack, and organize customer samples for laboratory processing.
- Organize and prepare customer returns for processing.
- Under supervision and guidance discard customer samples.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly routine cleaning of all laboratory equipment as needed.
- Assist with Operations laboratory inventory.
- Restock consumables and materials required for sample processing.
- Under supervision and guidance operate laser cutter.
- Dispose of microbial cultures, chemicals, recyclables, sharps, and glass in proper waste containers.
- Comply with all aspects of laboratory safety, safety stations, safety manuals, safety SOP’s and MSDS/SDS sheets.
- Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma/associate degree in microbiology or related discipline required.
- Experience: 0-2 years related experience in a laboratory setting.
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above.
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly stands, walks, uses arms, and uses hands to grasp, finger or feel tools or controls.
- Must regularly communicate with employees; must be able to exchange accurate information.
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and color vision.
- General office working conditions; the noise level is usually quiet.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly wears protective clothing and equipment (lab coat, gloves, and closed-toe shoes) when exposed to the laboratory area.
