Job Summary: The Director of Nursing (DON) is responsible for overseeing and managing the nursing staff and operations within the county jail. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality healthcare services to inmates, compliance with regulatory standards, and the implementation of best practices in correctional healthcare. The DON will collaborate with medical, administrative, and security staff to maintain a safe and effective healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Leadership and Management:
- Supervise and mentor nursing staff, including hiring, training, performance evaluations, and disciplinary actions.
- Develop and implement nursing policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with state and federal regulations.
- Ensure adequate staffing levels and manage scheduling to meet the healthcare needs of the inmate population.
- Clinical Oversight:
- Oversee the delivery of nursing care, ensuring it meets established standards and is patient-centered.
- Conduct regular audits and quality assurance checks to maintain high standards of care.
- Address and resolve clinical issues and concerns promptly and effectively.
- Collaboration and Communication:
- Work closely with the Chief Medical Officer and other healthcare providers to coordinate comprehensive care plans.
- Liaise with correctional officers and administrative staff to ensure smooth operations and address any security concerns related to healthcare delivery.
- Communicate effectively with inmates regarding their healthcare needs and treatment plans.
- Compliance and Documentation:
- Ensure compliance with all relevant healthcare regulations, including those specific to correctional facilities.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date medical records and documentation.
- Prepare and submit required reports to regulatory agencies and internal stakeholders.
- Education and Training:
- Provide ongoing education and training to nursing staff on best practices, new protocols, and regulatory changes.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the nursing team.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (BSN) required; Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) or Healthcare Administration preferred.
- Licensure: Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of California.
- Experience: Minimum of 5 years of nursing experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or management role. Experience in correctional healthcare is highly desirable.
- Skills: Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively in a challenging and dynamic environment. Knowledge of correctional healthcare regulations and standards.

Pay: $156,000.00 - $162,240.00 per year
